Active Shooter Response: What Would You Do?

Is your company prepared for an active shooter event?

Do you know what to do if an active shooter should arrive at your workplace? Do your employees know how to stay safe? Training and practice are critical in being prepared for nearly any crises situation. Join us as we welcome Chad for this refresher.

Objectives:
  • Recognize the need for an option based strategy when a Violent Critical Incident occurs
  • Identify the strategies of the ALICE program , Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate
  • Know the model of blended learning, and how ALICE uses this model. 
Before joining ALICE full time in 2017, Chad worked in law enforcement for a total of 23 years.  Before his departure from the University of Akron Police Department, he reached the rank of lieutenant.  In his 20 years with the University, he led community policing, the CHOP (Community Housing Oriented Policing) unit, was the department's lead trainer, and was a member of SWAT.  He is also a certified instructor in Ohio for Firearms, Defensive Tactics, and Active Shooter Response.  In addition, he was a member of the committee that composed the Solo Officer Response to Active Threat (SORAT). He teaches female self-defense and Ohio Concealed Carry Certification courses. He has been teaching for ALICE on a part-time basis since 2008 and has trained more than 70,000 people.  He holds an associate's degree in criminal justice, a bachelor's degree in Technical Education, and a master's degree in Instructional Technology.

Q: How do I correctly perform a monthly fire extinguisher inspection?

A: First, know this monthly inspection is mandatory via OSHA and National Fire Codes. This inspection is commonly done inhouse by an employee. There are a
variety of items you want to inspect monthly on fire extinguishers:

  • The extinguisher is properly mounted and not blocked or covered 
    fromview
  • The extinguisher is charged (in the green) and ready for use
  • The tamper seal is on and is holding the pin in
  • There isn't any physical damage to the extinguisher
  •  Nothing is blocking the nozzle (look in it)
  • The extinguisher is full by weighing it. (mandatory for CO2)
  • The nameplate is visible when you remount the extinguisher
  • There is a valid maintenance tag on the extinguisher that the inspector signs and dates.

FY 19 Safety Council Rebate Program Requirements


The FY 19 Safety Council Program year began 7/1/18. 
 
For those members who are eligible to participate in BWC's Safety Council Rebate Program this year, the following requirements must be met between 7/1/18 and 6/30/19:
  • Enrollment with safety council by 7/31/18.
  • Attendance at 10 Safety council meetings/events. At least 8 thru the local safety council. You can get credit for up to two meetings at BWC's safety training courses or other offsite industry-specific training courses/seminars. Certificates must be submitted to safety council no later than 6/30/19. Online courses do not qualify.
  • CEO attendance at one safety council sponsored meeting.
  • Submit semi-annual reports for the 2018 calendar year.
