Parsha Minute

Sometimes students ask teachers to give them a 100% on a test, or excuse them from an assignment, and at times it may even be tempting for the teacher to do so. But is it really doing them a favor? Find out the answer in this week's Parsha Minute!

Shabbat Shalom!

#TBT
"As my father planted for me, so I will plant for my child..."
On January 23, 2000 students and their families had the opportunity to "sink their roots" into the site which became the Robert M. Beren Academy campus.

From the desk of our
S.T.E.A.M. Lab

This week in STEAM EC15 and EC2 explored the world of shapes and colors. We played games, sang songs and transformed our centers into color and shape explorations as we worked on early math concepts. EC3 and EC4 leaned about how the eye works and used their eyes to explore the world of patterns. We then wrapped up the week by learning how to take care of our bodies by washing our hands. We conducted a germ experiment with bread to see how bacteria grows when bread is touched with clean hands vs. dirty hands.
Peer Leadership Goes to Court

Peer leaders saw first-hand how important having a support system is, as they visited juvenile court and saw teenagers without such a system. They plan to provide that support for the ninth grade students. The peer leaders also witnessed the consequences of poor decision-making. Speaking directly with the judge for 30 minutes was the highlight of the trip.
Potato Power

Mr. Riklin's 5th grade class did away with digital watches in class, for good! The students figured out how to harness the power of potatoes and activate the only working digital clock allowed in the room!
Symmetrical Creatures

Kindergarten artists created symmetrical name art after learning about symmetry in Mrs. Blumberg’s class. Students traced their names in cursive, and were encouraged to transform their name designs into symmetrical creatures.
Tinkercad Designs

Students in Mrs. Rosenzweig's 9th and 10th grade Geometry class applied their skills of parallel and perpendicular planes to design three-dimensional models.
Rock the Vote

Eligible students were eager to exercise their right to vote, and vote for the first time, by going with Head of School Paul Oberman to cast their ballot.
Parashat Chayei Sara

Student's in Morah Gabi's Kindergarten Judaic class had a hands-on demonstration of the immense kindness that Rivkah showed when she offered to give Eliezer a drink AND give water to his camels. They took turns carrying some big water bottles back and forth. They imagined that Rivkah must have felt super tired as she went back and forth from the well so many times.
Congruent Triangles

Students in Mrs. Rosenzweig's 9th and 10th grade class enjoyed applying their artistic skills during Geometry. While learning about congruent triangles, students were challenged to apply their skills by folding two origami animals. They also researched real world applications of origami.

Color Projects

Students in Mrs. Bryant's EC15 Art class enjoyed learning about and painting with the color green, which is part of their unit on the colors of the rainbow. They are working on a book which will contain their various color projects.
