Principal's Message

Greetings,

I want to express a big thank you to many in our school community who participated in Top 20 training led by Tom Cody. Thursday featured multiple sessions and Friday morning was spent working with our entire staff. I am so proud to say that many of our senior students not only attended both student sessions but were also very engaged and showed their commitment to leading our school culture forward in a very positive direction. While we are very proud and committed to providing an education of excellence, we are also seeking strategic ways to combat a societal culture that is trying very hard to tear apart our spiritual and social/emotional fabric. We will not let this happen and will strive to send our students outside of the walls of  Loyola to help lead the charge for cultural and spiritual shift. We have a real battle on our hands and am confident that many of our students are up to the challenge. Thank you for your support in this endeavor and we look forward to working with you to make a better today and tomorrow.

Next Tuesday, November 6th our 7th-12th grade students will be a part of an assembly led by Thad Shunkwiler. Thad is an assistant professor at MSU and will be bringing some of his students. The topic will be on vaping. 7th and 8th graders will have their own presentation catered to their age, while the 9th-12 grade will have their own as well. The presentations are framed to be interactive and engaging. Vaping has become an epidemic among many schools and in today's culture in general. We are confident by having our students hear from Thad that we can take steps to help Loyola be chemical free. The entire SSND property is chemical free and we will work very hard to keep our environment, as well as our students safe.

Over MEA we were fortunate to have the Blue Earth STS crew led by Eric Olson provide 22 people and 176 hours of labor. Much cleaning was done as well as painting the theater floor at Fitz. Thank you Eric for your good work and leadership!

"You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" takes place next week and weekend at Ftiz on that newly painted floor. Make sure to take in a show or more and support our students and staff for their hard work. Tickets are available in the school office or at the door.

All the best to our boys cross country team Saturday at state! Your pursuit of excellence and giving your best everyday is truly inspirational.

Sincerely,

Adam Bemmels,  PS-12 Principal

TOP 20 TRAINING
This week, we started our Top 20 Training initiative with our 7-12 students. Top 20 Training's goal is to introduce concepts and strategies to help bring out the best in students, teachers, families and communities. Topics such as challenging oneself to stay "above the line" and making the choice to "keep your day" were among the favorites. Loyola staff will spend Friday morning exploring more of Top 20 Training.

If you are unable to attend but wish to memorialize a loved one, please let us know and a student will process in with the candle on your behalf.
Loyola's Memorial Mass will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 28 in our school Chapel. SEEKING HOST FAMILIES
Be an ambassador for America and become a Host Family for a student from Buenos Aires, Argentina! Becoming a Host Family is easy, rewarding, and builds life-long friendships with folks all around the world. All you need to do is keep being a typical American family and provide room, board, and transportation to and from Loyola Catholic School (you'll receive a stipend to help offset costs). Students will be in Mankato from January 6 - February 9, 2019, and want to experience America and improve their English. For more information on hosting, please contact Julienne Antes at 507-304-2143 or [email protected].

FROM RUTH ARIANS:
The registration deadline for the December ACT test is Nov. 2nd.  Remember that for an additional $20 you can receive the actual test and your answers back. (This is called the TIR-test information release.)  This is very useful to tutors and/or the students to go over wrong answers, especially if the student anticipates they will be taking the test again in the future.

Mrs. Arians will be presenting on the topic "How To Get the Best Financial Deal for College" on Thursday, November 15 at 5:30pm in the cafeteria. All parents and students are invited
Sophomores:  The PreACT results will be handed out the first night of conferences, Nov. 15th (Thursday) at 7:00PM in the cafeteria.  We will talk about ways to increase your ACT score (and why that is important) , along with interpreting the results of the PreACT.

Seniors:  Oct. 22-26 the application fee will be waived for the 4 year state universities and the 2 yr state colleges in the MN State system.  This is the ideal time to send off your app to MSU, Mankato, Winona State, Bemidji State, Southwest MN State, St. Cloud State, Metropolitan State, or MSU, Moorhead. Also, remember that the 2 year colleges are approximately $3000. less expensive per year so you may want to apply to South Central College, RCTC (Rochester Community and Technical), etc. as they also will be waiving the application fee those days.  Use the promo code CKM2018 if prompted to do so.  There is a universal application for all MNState schools at http://www.minnstate.edu/admissions/application.htm

High School Girls:  SDSU is offering a one day STEM workshop with many hands on activities for $25 on Sat., Nov. 3rd, which includes lunch and a T shirt. If interested, register online at: https://www.sdstate.edu/jerome-j-lohr-engineering/ready-set-go
