Dear Colleague:
Thank you for participating in the Florida Mathematics Re-Design Kick-Off Meeting at St. Petersburg College. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues across Florida's K-20 educational systems as we chart the course to mathematics success in Florida. The opening speaker, Chancellor Madeline Pumariega, challenged participants to lead with courage in identifying strategies that will move Florida's students - particularly underserved students - further across educational mathematics pathways.

In that spirit, workgroup chairs Professor Cynthia McGinnis (high school to postsecondary alignment), Dr. Julie Phelps (FCS mathematics sequences) and Dr. Tommy Minton (college to university alignment) shared data and key takeaways from a pre-meeting survey that identified challenges related to implementing mathematics re-design and pathways. Dr. Carrie Henderson and Executive Director Naomi Sleap summarized the charge of the workgroups and the intended deliverables: 1) evidence-based practices designed for scale and 2) policy recommendations around mathematics re-design.

Following a lunch presentation from the event sponsor, Pearson, participants enga ged in an activity, Building our 2020 Visionary Headlines for Mathematics Success in Florida , where each workgroup unveiled magazine covers with vision headlines for 2020. The day concluded with each workgroup identifying huddles, which are smaller working groups that will link challenges with solutions over the course of the year. To keep the momentum from our kick-off going, we have outlined specific next steps for workgroup participants.
Next Steps
Register for the webinar scheduled for October 15 from 12:00-1:00 p.m. (EDT) via GoToWebinar. The purpose of this webinar will be to orient workgroup members to Canvas resources, review data and information, and preview the first huddle action item. A recording will be sent to all workgroup members.
Visit the Canvas site and explore the modules and toolkit, particularly milestone 3, which is the first task for huddles to complete. If you need the Canvas invitation re-sent, please contact FLStudentSuccess@fldoe.org
Workgroup members should review huddle assignments to ensure they are accurate. If a member wishes to change huddles or has not been assigned to a huddle, please reply to the discussion board post through Canvas by October 5.
