Advent Planning Meeting On Sunday
All who have been involved with or would like to help with the preparations for the upcoming Advent season are invited to stay after the Communion Brunch this Sunday, November 4 for a coordinating meeting.
We will discuss every aspect of Advent including decorating.The first Sunday of Advent is December 2.

IHN in Need This Week 
IHN will be arriving on Sunday and there are many open slots still needed to fill. Evening hospitality hosts (from 7 to 9 p.m.) are only filled for half the week. Even with some people doing overnight hosting on multiple nights during the week, we still have two open nights that need overnight hosts.

 This Sunday we begin our study of Cooperation--Working together to do more than you can alone. We will explore how God created us to work together in community. When we work together, we reflect what Jesus envisioned for His followers. Our love for one another can point people to Him

Do You Have Left Over Halloween Candy?
The Daisy and Brownie troops are collecting candy and treats for Operation Shoebox which sends treats to the deployed troops. This Sunday in the Narthex, there will be a sign and pail for you to donate your candy. The girls and the troops will be glad you did. Candy will be collected only until November 6th.

When we moved to Point Pleasant, our eldest daughter was three. One of our first concerns was to find a new church home. The first church we visited invited our daughter to join their Sunday School. She was used to attending Sunday School so she went off to the "new" class with happy anticipation. When we returned to pick her up, she was sitting all alone in the Sunday School room crying her little eyes out. The two teachers were talking and laughing at the door. We knew they hadn't made her cry but she was frightened. The dismissal procedure was different from our old church. It was very upsetting to see her all alone and in tears. A little comfort or company would have gone a long way to help her. We never went back to that church but visited Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church instead.
During our visit to Point Presbyterian we dropped Gwen off at Sunday School. She was warmly welcomed. When Sunday School was over, she was all smiles and so were we! We had found our church family. Our little three-year-old is now an elder in her Presbyterian Church in Vernon, New Jersey. The church family that welcomed us so long ago, still makes us welcome each Sunday, and warmly welcome the homeless and those in need of help, hope and faith.
Challenged and Sustained by Faith

I am truly blessed to be a member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church since 1991. When my first son was two years old in 1996, I enrolled him in Sunday School and decided to "help out." Shortly after this time, my husband suffered a massive stroke at the age of 34. He was in the hospital and at a live-in rehabilitation center for seven weeks. The church immediately prayed for my husband and offered meals since we do not have any family in the area. I continued to teach Sunday School during that time because "I needed it." Several years later, our lives were challenged yet again when my second child, age 2 at the time, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. I was 8 months pregnant with my 3
rd
son. Without asking, the church family provided unbelievable support throughout the ordeal. The church kept 3 separate schedules; a schedule to provide meals, a schedule to visit our son in the hospital to read books and play games and a schedule to babysit for our new baby and oldest son Steven, who was 6 years old at the time. One evening returning home from the hospital, Steven was extremely happy because he played hockey with Vince DeMartino in our garage and scored 10 goals on Vince, who was the goalie. At times I felt uncomfortable that so many church members, some that I barely knew, took time out of their busy schedules to support my family. When Donna Norton delivered a meal she said, "It makes me feel good." One day, the doctor told us that he didn't think Matthew was going to make it. Pastor Robin and Pastor Carl traveled to the hospital on Saturday morning and prayed by Matthew's bedside. By Monday morning, the doctor said "I am not sure what happened, but he has done a complete turnaround. His vitals have all picked up." I honestly knew what happened. After approximately 145 days in the hospital, Matthew came home! He is a 19-year-old, healthy, young man today. So, the reason why I continue to teach Sunday School after all these years "It makes me feel good." God Bless!

Youth Protection Training
On Sunday, November 18th, Elder Jim McGuire will lead a Youth Protection Training
 session
for all who work with children or youth in the church. The training will take place in the Chittick Lounge. Jim is an experienced trainer with the Boy Scouts of America. At the training, forms will be available to apply for the criminal background check the church requires.
Please note that training certificates expire within two years. Those who took the training prior to last year will have to be re-certified. Please RSVP to the church office or speak directly with Jim McGuire.

Christmas Shoppe Returning Again This Year
On November 18th, the ladies of Busy Hands will once again have their Christmas Shoppe with holiday items for sale.
The gals of the Busy Hands are having a silent auction for a hand-sewn beaded Christmas stocking. This silent auction will be a "one bid, make your best offer" sale. The winner of this item will be announced at the end of the sale.
Busy Hands will also have additional items for purchase that include quilted totes, baby bibs, Christmas jumpsuits for toddlers, cloth books and quilts. Table Runners for Christmas and seasonal holidays will also be available.
Plan on stopping by the North Hall on November 18th for some early Christmas Shopping. Everything sold will go to support both Busy Hands and the church.

Holiday Dinner Donations For St. Gregory's Pantry
The pantry is in need of items for traditional holiday dinners. Boxes of stuffing and potatoes and cans of cranberry sauce, gravy, yams, potatoes, and vegetable are especially needed for Thanksgiving distribution.
All donations can be dropped off in the Narthex as well as at the pantry directly every weekday from 10:00am - 12:00pm at 804 Bay Ave, PPB.
Thanksgiving Distribution is scheduled for November 19th. Christmas Distribution with Toy Land will be December 18th.
Youth Volunteers are needed to carry food up from the basement at the Pantry from 2 to 4:00 p.m. Adult Volunteers are needed at the Pantry from 9:00 a.m. til 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 19th for distribution. Afternoon volunteers are especially needed after 1pm since many morning volunteers leave. No sign up is necessary.
Volunteers will also be needed for the Toy Land Distribution held here in Wilton Hall.
Additional information on donations and volunteering for the Christmas Distribution will follow.

Shoebox Ministry of Samaritan's Purse
Completed shoeboxes can be placed in the North Hall. For those still preparing their boxes, red pamphlets with instructions and labels on packing a shoebox can be found in the pews and in the office.
Please include $9 for each shoebox to help with shipping costs. Checks can be made payable to Samaritan's Purse with a note on the memo line that the donation is for Operation Christmas Child. Place the sealed envelope (found in the Operation Christmas Child pamphlet) on top of the items inside your shoebox so it is clearly visible.
Shoeboxes will be dedicated on November 11th during our Sunday Service. Please have your box in before then. Boxes will then be brought to the distribution center so please don't delay in getting your box here by November 11th.

This Week at Point Beach Prep
This week we celebrated Halloween with parades and trick or treating! We had a field trip with our MWF am, MWF pm, and T/Th am classes over to the Point Pleasant Beach High School. Their Child Development Class decorated their room and set up trick or treat stations for all of our students! We ended each class with a parade on our playground for all parents and family to come and watch. What a great week!
