Elite Showdown: Predicting the 2018 Bank of America Chicago Marathon Winners
The deep and formidable elite fields of 2018 can keep you, but when all is said and done, American Galen Rupp and Kenyan Brigid Kosgei should be the ones at the 41
st
Bank of America Chicago Marathon.
It will be exciting for sure. It will be up to Rupp and Kosgei to make the right moves as they speed north on Michigan, up the hill on Roosevelt and then to the finish on Columbus. The return of pacers, uncertain weather, strategy by others and the unknown variables of marathon running also come into play, but Rupp and Kosgei know what it takes to be ready.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon, Shedd Aquarium Team Up to Reduce Single-Use Plastics
The
Bank of America Chicago Marathon
is partnering with Chicago's
Shedd Aquarium
to reduce single-use plastic pollution by joining the aquariums Shedd the Straw initiative. The partnership aims to encourage more sustainable alternatives for marathon participants, vendors and hotel and restaurant partners.
One way the organizations hope to make an impact is by asking all Chicago Marathon hotel partners, restaurants and vendors to join the aquariums Shedd the Straw initiative for race weekend and hopefully, permanently. Participation involves serving straws only upon request and switching to compostable options such as paper straws.

Why Triathletes Need Strength Training
Despite all those reasons to strength train, it’s usually counterproductive to try to get stronger during the season. You should use the off-season to get strong, and then aim to maintain your strength during the season.
Strength training helps you get stronger, develop more endurance and probably gain speed. (Who doesn’t want that?)
Here are some of the reasons why you should incorporate strength training into your triathlon training.

Jordan Hasay Discusses the Devastating Injury That Forced Her to Withdraw From Chicago
Jordan Hasay made her move from the track to the marathon in 2017, and it was a rousing success. She finished third at the Boston Marathon in 2:23:00, the fastest-ever debut by an American woman.
Six months later, she ran 2:20:57 in Chicago, which put her second on the all-time U.S. list behind Deena Kastor’s American record of 2:19:36. It seemed only a matter of time until Hasay would take a shot at Kastor’s 12-year-old record.
Instead, she’s spent most of 2018 cross-training after she sustained two different fractures in her left calcaneus, the bone in her heel. In April, she withdrew from Bostonthe day before the marathon after an MRI showed the injury. She took a month off of running, and returned to full training gradually over the summer to prepare for Chicago on October 7.
Her training, which included a 25-mile run within the past week, was going well, until she felt pain in the same spot. A scan revealed a second fracture, forcing her to withdraw from Chicago.
