Worship This Week
Celebrating the Fun of VBS 2018!
Our August VBS week was filled not only with the memorable songs sung in worship last Sunday but also with lively learning as preschoolers through fifth graders visited ancient Babylon with the Old Testament prophets.

Check out the photos of the fun these children had as they learned through their daily Vacation Bible School adventures that God always loves us and is with us wherever we go.

A Weekly Class at the Day School
The Fourth Church Day School still has a few openings for the upcoming "Together We Play."

This weekly interactive class--held on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.--is specially designed for parents and children ages 18-24 months (by September 1). Led by an early childhood professional, the class creates time to engage in free-play activities, songs, and stories as well as opportunity to meet other families.

To learn more about the class or to sign up for this parent-child time, contact Kathy Hager (312.640.2579).

Make Music with Us
"Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises" it says in Psalm 98.

If you'd like to do that with our Chancel Choir or with our Choral Society, mark your calendar for rehearsals that begin in September.

The Chancel Choir--which sings at the 8:00 worship service from September through May--will rehearse on Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary beginning on September 6.

On Thursday, September 20, the Choral Society will begin weekly 7:00 p.m. rehearsals in Buchanan Chapel for a November concert commemorating the end of World War 1 and featuring music by Elgar, Bainton, and Tavener.

If you prefer to ring rather than sing, our Handbell Choir will begin rehearsals on Sunday, September 9 at 8:00 a.m. in the Buchanan Chapel Choir Loft.

Come join us in making music this autumn!

fiveBuchanan and Dozeman on Genesis
A Sunday Class Beginning September 9
Who are we as mortal beings? Who are we called to be by the God who gave us life and breath?

We will have opportunity to explore these questions beginning Sunday, September 9, when John Buchanan and Tom Dozeman lead a new four-week class, "In the Beginning: God and Humankind in Genesis."

The team-teaching of Fourth Church's Pastor Emeritus and the United Theological Seminary's professor of Old Testament--and popular Academy for Faith and Life instructor--was a big hit when they last paired to teach an adult education class here at Fourth Church.

This time they are back in the classroom together to guide us in a closer look at how the foundational stories of creation found in the book of Genesis define human identity in God, explore our moral responsibility as agents, and continue to inspire our core identity and our moral vision as Christians in the twenty-first century. Mark your calendar and come join John and Tom!
