Introducing Nextdoor
Washington County joins Nextdoor
Washington County has joined Nextdoor to share information and updates that have an impact in County neighborhoods.
Nextdoor is a social-networking service, similar to Facebook and Twitter, but grouped by geographical neighborhoods. People using Nextdoor can view and post information to groups within and near where they reside.
Land Use & Transportation (LUT) communications staff will be sharing information on opportunities to comment on studies and projects; open houses; traffic impacts, including emergency weather notifications; to conduct opinion polls and to provide neighbors an opportunity to learn more about LUT's operations.
Neighborhood conversations will remain private to participants; LUT staff will only be able to see replies to County posts and private messages sent directly to staff. The County Nextdoor account is monitored during normal business hours, Monday through Friday.
Emergencies should never be reported through social media. For urgent road requests for service, call LUT at 503-846-ROAD (7623). For fire, medical and law enforcement emergencies, call 9-1-1. For all non-emergency issues, call 503-629-0111.
Kivett named 'Top Gun' for second year
For the second year in a row, Justin Kivett, a light equipment operator in the LUT Operations and Maintenance Division, has been named " Top Gun" by the Oregon Association of County Engineers and Surveyors (OACES).
Kivett, who has been with LUT for eight years, was the top performer in the OACES 25th Annual Skills Demo and Safety Conference. The skills demonstration involved six areas of competition, including chain on-off, pre-trip inspection, backhoe, loader, grader and truck plow.
Kivett competed against 85 other participants from 18 counties and was awarded Top Gun for earning the highest overall score in all areas.
"I enjoy going to the event every year, because it's a good opportunity to network," Kivett said. "The competition is just a small part of it. Most of our time is spent in classrooms learning how other municipalities operate around the state."
Roy Rogers Road area open house is Sept. 27
The public is invited to learn more about traffic impacts, road construction, pipelines and sewer pipe installations in the Roy Rogers Road area at an open house from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at Mountainside High School, 12500 SW 175th Ave.
Staff from Clean Water Services, Willamette Water Supply Program, Washington County Department of Land Use & Transportation and the city of Tigard will be available to answer questions and to gather input on current and future projects in the area. Developers working in the area have also been invited to share information. For a sign or spoken-language interpreter, call 503-846-4963 (or 7-1-1 for Telecommunications Relay Service) at least 48 hours prior to this event.
The four public organizations also partnered to create GetUsThere.org, a one-stop website with information on all projects and related traffic impacts in the Roy Rogers Area. The website includes both an interactive map and a project list in text/table form. Visit the site to review projects' status, detours and more.
