Spirit Week, Bon Games & Homecoming

With a new year and co-op football team, the Homecoming events stressed a new message of unity, not just with the current students, but also with our new teammates and families from Western Michigan Christian High School.  The message was well received among the students, and it showed through the participation of the students during Spirit Week. The themes of the days were even more creative than the years past and included Decade Day, America Day, Jersey Day, and Green-and-Gold Day to represent our school pride.  On Monday, students participated in the annual Bon Games; with new games like corn hole with actual corn, wheelbarrow races, and human can-jam, students were eager to compete for their classes. Although Bon Games was only for high schoolers, the middle schoolers were able to fight for their classes at the Homecoming Assembly.  Togetherness and unit
y were definitely key aspects of the assembly, and the WMC team was invited to join in the assembly. The team was assumed within their grade levels as if they were students from our school. To top off the Homecoming week, West Michigan Christian High School joined our own students at the dance following the football team's victory of 41-6 over Muskegon Heights.  The students from both schools danced the night away in our cafeteria. The schools were united through a Homec
oming success and a football victory.

Electronic Sign Project

Over the past decade, digital signage has completely changed the way educational institutions interact with their  students, staff, parents, alumni and local community. Digital signage is the most effective tool for schools to reach  their audience with engaging and targeted messages that actually get noticed. Thank you to the 126 donors who made this sign possible on the MCC campus on Laketon near Barclay!  This project was led by Kirk '75 & Barb (Kolenic) '77 Antekeier.  Kirk and Barb are continuing their efforts to replace the sign at the Barclay entrance.

Feast Day of St. John Paul II, MCC's Patron Saint

On October 22nd, we at MCC celebrated the feast day of our patron saint, St. John Paul II. We celebrated this great saint's feast with Polish desserts, prayer, a World Youth Day talk and a  pierogi eating contest. We also took the time to honor John Paul II's love for books. During the week of October 22nd-26th, the WINGS students held a book drive that brought in 1,113 books! Th ese  books will be used for two "free little libraries" in Muskegon as well as other books donated to Muskegon area charities that serve the youth. All in all a successful celebration of an amazing saint!
Crusader Youth Football Club-League Champs!

Jennifer Brown
Food Service Direc tor

Mike and I live in Fruitport with our 4 children.  We attend St. Francis de Sales church in Norton Shores. After an invite to a tailgate with our friends, we became fast fans of Muskegon Catholic!

We started our children's Catholic education at St. Mary's in Spring Lake. After having accepted the position as Food Service Director at Muskegon Catholic this summer, we happily became Crusaders!

Sara (8th) is on the varsity cheer team, Michael (5th) is in his 3rd year of football, Isabelle (3rd) just started cheering and Lily (K) started her first year of dance. We are so thankful for the warm welcome and the many opportunities here. We are inspired by the traditions of the multiple families at MCC and we're excited to start that tradition for our own family.

Ryan Silvis '95

In February, 2018, the Wyoming Department of Public  Safety recognized police officers and firefighters who distinguished themselves by performing a service or services over and above what is normally expected in similar circumst
ances. Officer Ryan Silvis was awarded the Police Heart and Officer of the Year for services performed in 2017. Like a military Purple Heart, the Police Heart is awarded to an officer who sustained a serious injury in the line of duty.

In the early morning hours of February 1, 2017, Ryan responded to a car accident on US 131 near 44th Street in Wyoming, MI. While investigating the accident, he was struck by another vehicle and thrown nearly 30 feet, fracturing his pelvis. Despite his injuries, Ryan was able to call for the appropriate backup and render aid to the driver of the first vehicle, who was also injured by the second vehicle.

Ryan graduated in 2000 on the Dean's List from Lake Superior State University with a BS in Criminal Justice. In his 18 years of service in the City of Wyoming, Ryan has acted as a school resource officer, a member of the Department Honor Guard, a field training officer, and a member of Wyoming's TACT team.
