Sunday, September 30

Two services  at 9 and 11  a.m.

Worship Leader: Andre Mol,
Developmental Assistant Minister for Pastoral Care and Membership

Worship Associate:  Kenneth Russell

"Hope in Lost Dreams"
Our culture highly prizes dreams of the future, and working towards living out those dreams. We are encouraged to shape our individual lives from our deepest dreams. As Unitarian Universalists, many of us feel called to collectively work towards a future we dream about - a future upholding the inherent worth and dignity of all. But what happens when events in our lives or in our world suddenly seem to render our dream impossible? In these moments, hope can be hard to find, and shaping a new dream can seem like a futile exercise. Together we'll explore collective spiritual practices that can sustain us and foster hope in such difficult times.

Two-Service Schedule Starts This Sunday!

This  Sunday,  September 30 , we will begin our regular  two-service schedule.  Join us for worship at  9 a.m. and 11 a.m.  on Sundays!

Family Breakfast
Erika Reif, Religious Education Assistant

You're invited to our first Family Ministry event of the year! Come join us in the Community Room for breakfast between the first and second services this Sunday, September 30, starting at 10:15 a.m. As we eat, we will hear briefly about our Family Ministry schedule for the year, and the exciting new things we have planned for families and faith formation, but mostly we'll just enjoy each other's company! All are welcome!

Members of our Family Ministry Team will be available in the Community Room after the 11:00 service to answer questions about what "Family Ministry" means, and hear from you what you hope it will become here at FUUSB!

First Service Volunteers Needed for Family Ministry Class
Family Ministry at First UU is still looking for volunteers to teach and assist in our classes for children. We have particular need during the
9:00  service, when a single class serves children from preschool through fifth grade. If you would like to find out more, please contact Erika Reif at  [email protected] .

Member Parking Passes
Our Facilities Manager, David McFeeters, will be selling member parking passes in the Alcove past the office after services this Sunday, September 30. Passes allow members to park in the Meeting House Oval for up to three hours at any time during the week. Passes cost $35 for one car or $60 for two. We sell up to 50 passes on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact David for more information or to arrange an alternate time to purchase a pass:
[email protected]  or 862-5630 ext. 23.

Fall-Winter Theme Circles Registration
Registration is presently underway for Theme Circle participation; groups will begin meeting at specific times during the third week of October, November, December and January to explore the themes of Sanctuary, Memory, Mystery, and Possibility.

Theme Circles consist of about eight to ten members who meet with a trained facilitator at specific monthly times to discuss, reflect, and explore the monthly spiritual theme. Participation in a Theme Circle is a wonderful way to make new friends, connect with old friends, and foster meaningful connections in our large congregation. After receiving and studying the monthly edition of The Path , participants choose a question or two to incorporate into their daily lives and then ultimately share that experience (or other thoughts or inspirations) when the group meets. Be aware that when you join a Theme Circle, you should make every effort to attend all meetings, although members will certainly understand your absence when you are out of town.

Sign-ups will extend online at this link:
https://goo.gl/forms/EYfJgxsHxD7aZY812 through October 5. There will also be opportunities to sign up after the services  this Sunday, September 30.  Each registrant will be asked to list first, second and third choice of group times. The sooner you sign up, the more likely you will get your first choice. You'll learn your Theme Circle Group assignment in early October.

If you have questions, email [email protected] and we'll get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you and we look forward to having you join us!

Your Theme Circle Team
Andre Mol and Kenneth Russell

Reminder: Family Ministry Registration
Erika Reif, Religious Education Assistant

Classes begin this Sunday,
September 30, so if you haven't yet, it is time to register children and youth for classes and YUUth group!

As we take our first steps towards a Family Ministry model of faith formation, you may notice a change in the language we use; what we referred to in the past as
Religious Education classes will now be known as Family Ministry classes, but will remain very similar in practice.

We will also be rolling out some new opportunities for families to grow in faith together throughout the year, so expect to hear more about those soon!

I invite you all to register your children from the littlest nursery goers through seniors in high school with this  link to our database. Returning families are already known to the database, and I encourage you to create a log-in for yourselves; newcomers can register as guests.

It is very helpful to our planning process to get children and youth registered at the beginning of the year when possible, so your prompt action will be greatly appreciated!

Please contact me with any questions you may have about this process at  [email protected].
