Summer Heart-and-Spirit-Sensing
Cowichan Valley Anthroposophists and the Anthroposophical Society
of Canada Council members review a time of retreat together.
In the way that spiritual community friends from afar can do, Canadian Anthroposophists bridged some continental distance this summer in the lush Camphill setting of Glenora Farm, Vancouver Island. Dedicated western friends and acquaintances, working devotedly with Rudolf Steiner's indications, some for decades, brought hints of the hearty, eclectic, First Nations integrated, arts-thriving rural community by the sea and tall cedars. This, while tucked protectively away from the smoke of wildfires pressing all around the island and province this season.
Council individuals from Nova Scotia, Quebec, Ontario, Alberta, and Vancouver brought distilled sensitivities as gifts, from meeting many members across the country over the years, as well as exercises for getting to know each other through their connections to Anthroposophy past, present, and future. Working in triads, members strung some understandings together for others about how Anthroposophy has been moving and developing in their life timeline
Hosts Nicolette Genier, Olaf Lampson, and Adola McWilliam, offered some foundational insights into the working of the new Trillium center at the farm. Annette Lampson and a number of Camphill companions warmed members into the day with the fine resonance of a bell choir. Members learned of the foundation stone that lies beneath the evolving Trillium building and arts center.

Anthroposophy Worldwide no 9 − 2018
Dear Members and Friends,
The Goetheanum is a place to tackle the challenges of our time. I would like to draw your attention to two important events that bring people together, offering an open spaces for dialogue on current issues:
At the beginning of September, the Humanities Section invited scientists and cultural activists to develop an objective and engaged discussion to the one-sided transhumanistic image of the human being currently prevalent in society. The intention was not to form rash judgements, but rather to characterize the unique qualities of being human.
In the corporate world, the challenge of cooperation and competition, self-efficacy and burn-out, dialogical leadership and hierarchy, are some of the daily challenges that need to be mastered. At the end of September, the Forum of the World Goetheanum Association offers the opportunity to discuss these and similar issues among active practitioners.
In response to the recent focus on conspiracy theories in the Anthroposophical Movement, eight statements on the subject were published in the last issue of Anthroposophy Worldwide. This resulted in many letters. Aspects of these letters, summarized by the editor, appear here, but a special edition in which the complete texts of these communications will be publicized, is in preparation. These and many other tasks are all carried by individual engagement and commitment. As members of the Executive Council at the Goetheanum, we are responsible for ensuring that Anthroposophy can flourish in the world. We have described some of these tasks as reflected in the economic well-being of the Goetheanum, so that you can identify what your membership contributions are used for and where they are still needed. Should you be willing and able to contribute further to the activities of the Goetheanum, you will find possible suggestions on pages 2 and 3.

Art as a powerful tool for social action -

On June 20, 2018, the Atelier d'art social de
Montréal

hosted an evening with Gwenaël Quiviger, French artist, musician, dancer and doctoral researcher in the field of social science. The event was held in the upstairs space of the Grande Ourse toy store in Montreal.
It was an email sent by Gwenaël to Denis Schneider requesting references in the field of social art that initiated a series of decisive phone conversations between the two. Gwenaël then invited Denis to attend his thesis presentation at Montreal's National Institute of Scientific Research. When Denis subsequently attended a concert given by Gwenaël in Montreal, he immediately recognized the artist's calibre and his deep interest in social questions. He decided then and there to invite Gwenaël to give a presentation for the Atelier d'art social during which he could share something of his biography and speak of his research projects focussing on art as a means of empowering individuals to take charge of their own lives. And, of course, to perform some of his songs, accompanying himself on the accordion. The plans for a festive evening including music and an exchange of ideas were then set in motion.
At the University of Poitiers, in connection with the Université du Québec en Outaouais, Gwenaël is studying the use of traditional art forms as a social intervention tool for empowering individuals to take charge of their lives. His outreach work led him to the multicultural Bellevue neighbourhood in the city of Nantes, in western France. A parallel study led him to discover the underprivileged neighbourhood of Ascot, in Sherbrooke, Quebec. There he is heading several projects, among which are the Young Musicians of the Worldand the Cultureof the Heartinitiative to combat social exclusion.

Gwenaël was born in Brittany 46 years ago. At the age of 18, he was shocked to discover that: "As I was striving to be a good French citizen, I learned that Breton, my parent's mother tongue, was banned in France. Had I been lied to all those years?" ..

Anthroposophical Prison Outreach Canada
"Your Council considers one of its core functions is to encourage and support initiatives in the world by the Membership.
One of our members, Tim Nadelle, has taken the initiative to design and launch an Anthroposophical Prison Outreach program in Canada. We are excited to work with Tim to help in the areas of holding a consciousness of the initiative, spreading awareness and networking, creative funding arrangements and tax receipting. As the steward on this project, we are grateful for his inspiration, and initiative in presenting such a comprehensive plan for this important work in the world."
Anthroposophical Society in Canada supports initiative: Anthroposophical Prison Outreach Canada
Over the last few years, several society and council members have thought about the idea of an Anthroposophical Prison Outreach initiative, in the direction of what our colleagues in the U.S. have achieved. So we're pleased to announce that the work is underway. Tim Nadelle is the steward for the initiative, supported by Susan Richard and Christine Tansley. The Society stands behind their efforts. And the Council has made a commitment to support and sustain the work going forward; for example, by finding a replacement in future if Tim Nadelle needed to withdraw.

KSLL (Kootenay Society for LifeLong Learning) was born on Feb 7, 2005 as the International School of the Kootenays Society.
In 2009 we changed the name and purpose
from: International School of the Kootenays
Purpose: To offer international and intergenerational education that celebrates the human spirit and fosters a lifelong love of learning, as outlined by Dr. Rudolf Steiner (Austrian Philosopher and Visionary 1865-1925)
to: Kootenay Society for LifeLong Learning
and redefined our purpose to: Through fostering lifelong learning we celebrate the universal human spirit by developing and supporting learning experiences that awaken and engage human potential.
Our society engages with the advancement of Peace and Social Justice through the creation and support of not for profit courses, seminars, projects and workshops for high school learners, community members and international guests.
Since the Societies inception in February 2005 it has initiated the following projects:
The International School of the Kootenays: a BC Ministry of Education certified Independent High School in Nelson, which merged with SelfDesign Learning Community in 2009 and became the high school program for SelfDesign.
PeaceCamps: a series of youth peace camps held at the Tipi Camp on the east shores of Kootenay Lake.
Fair Trade for Peace Market: held each winter holiday season since 2009.
Veggie Bus Project: initially a project with SelfDesign High, the veggie bus project is developing into a portable Art Hive! We are partnering with Nelson Youth Centre, Oxygen Art Centre and Kootenay Art Therapy Institute for this next project.
Youth Lead the World: this project began as a partnership with SelfDesign High, and is now taking its next steps with KSLL and Ubuntu Learning.

Auriel Eurythmy
Welcome to Auriel eurythmy the only eurythmy training program in Canada. Auriel is currently running 3 new first year groups in Canada and in Mexico and has just graduated the inaugural group that began 5 years ago. The Auriel modular part-time eurythmy training is made up of 15 courses, 3 in each year spread out over a five year period. Successful completion of the training requires independent study, and movement and practicum assignments. We are very happy to be able to offer these courses as stand alone courses or as part of the training process for anyone who is interested in eurythmy for their personal or professional development, and for those who wish to start preparing the way to becoming eurythmists.
Starting in the Fall 2018 Auriel will launch a Foundation Year of anthroposophical studies with an emphasis on the arts, targeted for eurythmy students but open to anyone wishing an online course in anthroposophy with four weekends a year of art and community for each of the four major festivals of the year.

Sophia Services is offering an exciting, second opportunity to visit Portugal, a country full of evidence of the activities of Templar Knights, hundreds of years ago. Portuguese history is rich, incorporating the explorers, Henry the Navigator, Vasco da Gama and Magellan as well as the Templars who led driving the Spanish and the Moors out of the country. The beautiful countryside is often painted on their famous tiles displayed on the exterior of buildings.
The first tour was so successful some wanted to return, so the itinerary has some changes.
