Andrew and his older
sister live with th eir ver

y old and sickly grandmother. His sister is usually a w a y at boarding school and Andrew is left to do much of the work to keep the home going as his grandmother can do very little. He collects fire wood, tends animals and h elps work the gardens, sometimes early in the morning in the dark, before heading out for the long 40 minute walk to our Genesis Nursery & Primary School where he is in the 3rd grade. When we first found Andrew in 2014 he was very thin and malnourished. So attending school was almost more about his health than his education. You can see Andrew's story in our Donate a Plate video on our website.

Consistent nutrition has made a huge difference for Andrew. But, just this year, Andrew has faced new health challenges including episodes of lost consciousness. After many tests at our Holmes Medical Clinic as well as in larger facilities, Andrew's condition remains a mystery. Testing for Malaria and HIV, EKGs, MRIs, brain scans and more have identified nothing. Further visits to the home have revealed that Andrew's grandmother is not able to supervise his medications so these are now managed more closely through the clinic and school while they continue to seek the true causes of his symptoms.

Bruno
, a 6th grader at Genesis School comes from a difficul t home life and is not sponsored. Bruno recently presented with a minor wound that had become dangerously infected. The clinic treated the wound with antibiotic steroids and pain killers. Donated funds made it possible for us to offer further treatment to this boy when the infection continued. Praise God that the infection finally subsided and Bruno is already back to playing soccer with his friends.

These are just two of the many challenging cases seen at our Holmes Medical clinic. Michael has been    working with Katherine since she arrived in Uganda and he and Pius are excellent Medical Officers, serving our sponsored kids as well as many in the community who would otherwise not be able to afford medical treatment. Many do not survive illnesses or injuries, not because their
ailments are untreatable, but because they cannot afford the treatment. Sometimes, they simply don't recognize treatment is needed. It is likely that without the treatment that the clinic was able to provide to Andrew and Bruno we would be telling you very different stories about them.

Please join us in welcoming Jerry Haag, representing our partners at One More Child, and Dr. Allen Jason Holmes, our partner for the clinic, to our Board of Directors. Thank you to Ron Gunter for the years that he served on our board. We wish him well in his continued ministry activities. Thank you to all of you as you faithfully share in ministry with us to serve the community of Kamonkoli to the glory of God.

Holmes Medical Clinic
Making a difference for a community

In June, the clinic treated 427 patients, the most ever in one month. Praise God for the rains that allow these families that live off the land to survive, but this also brought many respiratory cases; coughs, colds and high grade fevers. With mosquitos and limited clean drinking water, Malaria and Typhoid are very common and treatable if caught quickly. Delayed treatment of ailments and injuries create emergencies and limited diagnostic equipment in the country provide medical challenges.

We want to keep providing for these basic and special needs and need your help to keep our medicines and supplies stocked. Please consider a donation to the clinic today with a check to our U.S. office, online at www.hineskids.org or by texting HUM to 41444. Help us serve Andrew and Bruno as well as many more in the community.

We purchase as many supplies, medication and small equipment for our clinic in Uganda when we can, but what we bring from the U.S. is usually of higher quality. If you have any supplies you would like to donate, no expired medications please, please contact us at homeoffice @hineskids.org. You may contact Dr. Holmes at ajholmes@hineskids.org if you have questions about a specific donation you would like to consider.
