SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
Welcome back to the 2020-21 school year!

A warm welcome to students, families, teachers and staff! It goes without saying that this is not how we anticipated beginning this school year, but it is with great enthusiasm that we learn to connect in new ways and champion education from afar. While this is a different educational experience, we remain committed to creating an excellent learning environment where our students may continue to thrive. What I have learned most in these last few months is the impact of teamwork when it comes to adapting to an ever-evolving landscape. A big thank you to our school leaders, staff, and teachers who have been instrumental in adjusting, pivoting, and strengthening our practices while keeping safety and quality education at the forefront.

I wanted to call out a few important areas of focus for the school; we are investing in the technology required to provide a quality online academic experience; we are working with teachers to develop online instructional skills; we will update our curriculum to reflect and include appropriate social-emotional learning, mental health supports and social justice. For our students and families, we will continue to lead with the lens of equity and excellence, giving your child what they need to excel, especially in a time of crisis. We will continue to explore opportunities to directly correct structural inequities—like closing the digital divide. We have a lot of work to do, and at times things may be difficult, but we are ready to bring our community together again, and work with our families to shape a most successful school year.

What I MOST appreciate about Lycée is that even under these trying circumstances, we are still a strong and caring community.

Wishing all a great 2020-21 school year!
Marina

20-21 ESS MODELS TO FAMILIES
As Lycée Français continues to grow each year, so do the needs of our students. We've spent the past year developing and refining the continuum of services, which considers students' specific needs and how to best serve them in the least restrictive environment. Historically, special education programming at Lycée Français has consisted of push-in and pull-out services. Moving forward, we have developed a more cohesive continuum that takes into consideration student exceptionalities, goals and program services when determining placement. This model places students at the center of special education programming. This has led to the development of two specialized programs: co-teaching and resource. To read the ESS Models CLICK HERE.

Schedule Clarification

A bit of clarification in the midst of this complicated back to school:

*** Week of 8/24-8/28

PreK and K students will start their regular schedule. Teachers will share schedules. Students have different meetings with their teachers. All students have been assigned a group (fish, alligator, whale, octopus) so they can meet at specific times with their teachers in small groups.

1st and 2nd grade students will continue meeting with their ELA teachers next week for the entire ELA block (i.e. 75 mn) and students will have one or two elective classes (PE, music, TOC, or STEM). The schedule is being communicated today. Students will be assigned to a group. Be on the lookout for an email indicating to which group your child belongs.

*** Week of 8/31-9/4

- 8/31 will likely be the same as 8/24

- 9/1 All French teachers are scheduled to start working and thus regular schedules will start for 1st and 2nd grade.
Technology Update
Email originally sent Thurs. 8.20.20 - CLICK HERE TO READ

The school has acquired Chromebooks (iPads for Pre-K) for all students. The process to get devices prepared and distributed to families has been more challenging than anticipated given the viral environment, and we thank you for your patience.

If you would like a device later in the term but can manage for the time being, thank you, and please be on the lookout for a future survey for you to compete. We want to ensure that all students have access to the needed technology to be successful with remote learning.

At this time we are prioritizing getting devices to our families that are most in need. If you have not received an LFNO device yet and are unable to independently provide one to our child/(ren) for the time being, please complete the Patton technology survey (Grades PreK-4 to 2nd) and/ or the Johnson technology survey (Grades 3rd to 10th). You will be contacted as soon as a device is available for pick up.
