Public Health Councils Report at LA County

The Los Angele County Board of Supervisors received a report from the Director of Public Health on expanding the monitoring of compliance with County health officer orders in the workplace to help slow Covid transmission. The initial motion asked the department to work with labor representatives, worker advocates, and business community representatives to offer recommendations on a possible new structures and mechanisms that would allow employers at work to notify Public Health about possible violations of County HOOs and guidelines. The report is incredibly biased towards union representatives and worker protection groups with 18 representatives from Labor Organizations side and only 5 from actual businesses and business organizations. This report will cause immense harm on businesses that have already shown compliance in the 90th percent across all sectors. Many mechanisms are currently in place to allow all stakeholders to file non compliance complaints and the County should be looking at opportunities to grow those programs instead of creating a complex, burdensome new system. LA:RISE Funding at Risk

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors are considering cuts to the Measure H funding which supports the Los Angeles Regional Initiative for Social Enterprise (LA:RISE) program. LA:RISE has helped at-risk individuals and those experiencing homelessness secure jobs and stay employed. If proposed funding cuts are approved over 1,000 individuals that obtained employment through the program would likely lose their jobs. The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Policy Team wrote a letter to Supervisor Solis and Supervisor Kuehl urging them to continue program funding for Fiscal Year 2020-21. A copy of the letter can be found here. For more information on the LA:RISE program click here.
