$1 City Lots - Opportunity Zone Interactive Map - A Night of Magic - Cityscape Invesment Tools for Small Biz - Columbian Cuisine - "Scoring" a Virtual Conference
What $1 Buys

In December the City of Chicago will put about 4,000 vacant lots on sale for $1 via the Large Lots program.  The parcels, located predominantly on the City's South, South west and West Sides, can be used for urban gardens and social spaces for area residents.  To qualify, applicants must own property on the same block as the lot for sale and can purchase up to two parcels for $1 each.  The program launched in 2014 with the sale of more than 2,000 lots in the South Side's Englewood neighborhood.  The next round to apply for lots begins in early December. How Do The Proposed Opportunity Zones Line Up With Gentrifying Areas?
Steven Vance; July 2018

Opportunity Zones are low-income areas that were designated by states to be places where investors can invest their capital gains for 10 years and get a tax break. Only 25 percent of a state's low-income Census tracts can be designated, and Illinois submitted its map to the U.S. Treasury before last month's deadline. A majority of the tracts are in Chicago.
