The Charlestown Coalition News:
Issue 26
October 2018
Prevention Month Assembly
October is National Substance Use Disorder Prevention Month, and for the past four years, the Charlestown Coalition has partnered with the Clarence D. Edwards Middle School to host an educational assembly for students.

This year, Andi Macone from Phoenix Multi-Sport facilitated an inspirational workout while sharing her experience, strength, and hope with our Charlestown youth at the middle school.

Phoenix Multi-Sport's goal is to help people who struggle with addiction find their path to recovery through exercise and fellowship. The program is free, and the only requirement to participate is 48 hours of sobriety. To learn more about Phoenix, click here.

Special thank you to Andi Macone and Phoenix Multi-Sport for sharing their practical exercise techniques. As always, we are grateful to our partners at the Clarence R. Edwards Middle School for sharing their space and hosting another successful Prevention Month Assembly.

Changes at the Coalition
Two staff members are expecting new additions to their families! Shannon Lundin, community outreach coordinator, will begin her maternity leave in mid-October. But, don't worry-we promise she will be back! And, prevention coordinator Ginaya Greene-Murray is expecting her little one sometime in December.

We will carry on with the Turn It Around youth program despite being shorthanded, and we will keep everyone informed of any schedule or location changes (if they happen). We appreciate your understanding and look forward to continuing to serve and support Charlestown residents and youth!

"ONE CHARLESTOWN" is the complete redevelopment and revitalization of the Bunker Hill Apartments, transforming New England's largest federal housing project into 13 blocks of mixed-income housing. The project will create new buildings and well-lit, tree-lined streets that restore important connections in the neighborhood. All 1,100 affordable apartments now on the site will be replaced, alongside new market-rate units, neighborhood shops, restaurants, and community spaces (source: www.onecharlestown.com ).
