The Office of the Bishop: Making Space for Connections
The Office of the Bishop is a work-in-progress, as evident by the telephone lines that have yet to be put up! Shown above is our staff in the new reception area ready to welcome you.
Bishop Barry Beisner and the Board of Trustees enthusiastically decided that this was the time to expand the current Office of the Bishop space into the adjacent suite. This will give the diocese adequate meeting spaces for diocesan governance and commission meetings, as well as sufficient office space for bishop's office staff.
Our new office will be much more indicative of the work we do as Episcopalians and as a part of the wider Church. We will have a large conference room with technology that will enable video meetings and commission discussions, encouraging participation from across the diocese - a goal that is highlighted in the bishop search profile.

Register for Convention - deadline is Friday, Sept. 28
The annual Diocesan Convention will be held in Redding on Nov. 9-10, 2018.

Convention registration is open. P
lease purchase your tickets before Sept. 28 to avoid the late registration fee of $25.00 and to help the Office of the Bishop prepare most efficiently for convention. For those who volunteer (a minimum of four hours; delegates are excluded from this), registration is free.
Pre-Convention Gathering to Focus on Baptismal Ministry
Our third Pre-Convention Gathering topic is "
Following God's Call: From Church Chores to Ministry."
How can our church communities cultivate and support ongoing vocational discernment for brand new and long-time leaders? How can we cultivate spiritual practices that sustain each person's baptismal ministry inside and outside the walls of our churches?
Join us for a morning of learning, discussion, and discernment about these questions.

Anne Clarke to assist St. Martin's, Davis, for next few months
The Rev.
Anne Clarke, the Lifelong Christian Formation Coordinator for our diocese, will be working with St. Martin's, Davis, for the next few months.
In the last year Anne spent time at St. Luke's, Woodland, and was at St. Clement's, Rancho Cordova, during the spring.
"I'm looking forward to spending time ministering with the people of St. Martin's and being a part of their community's next phase of growth and development. These periods of intensive time helping out at one congregation are one of the great joys of my work in this diocese," Anne said.

Bishop invites retired clergy to lunch - Nov. 29
The next retired clergy lunch with the bishop is Thursday, Nov. 29, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., graciously hosted by All Saints, Sacramento. There is no cost to invitees, but we do ask that you reserve in advance and let us know of any dietary restrictions (see below for reservation info).

Deanery Convocations are Oct. 20
Convocations are deanery-organized workshops that allow for pre-Convention discussions, centered around topics such as budget, apportionment, elections and more. It is especially important that all clergy, delegates and alternates attend a Convocation to become familiar with the resolutions and nominees.

Fortuna's ten stained glass windows celebrated on Sept. 23
St. Francis', Fortuna, celebrated its tenth window installation with a "Celebration of the Arts" on Sunda

Artist Jeanette Carson of Ukiah has been making stained glass windows for over 30 years,
was commissioned by St. Francis' in 2001, and has continued to design and craft their stained glass windows until the recent
completion
of the tenth window.
The Rev. Canon Andrea McMillin and Director of Operations Kati Braak attended the celebration, and Kati shared, "One unique quality about the windows is that Jeanette incorporated the redwood design on the pulpit into an arabesque feature shown at the top of each window."

Paul Colbert to become Priest-in-Charge at Sutter Creek
The Rev. Paul Colbert has been announced as the new Priest-in-Charge at Trinity, Sutter Creek.
The church posted on their Facebook page: "
Fr. Paul is a spiritually grounded, authentic, well-read priest with a history of social justice work (to name just a very few of his many gifts)."
The Rev. Paul's first Sunday will be Sunday, Sept. 30, and the church couldn't be more thrilled.

St. Martin's will also have a few volunteers helping out at our "Tech Table" to help answer any questions you have about social media, Facebook and Internet Safety. They will also have informational pamphlets to take home to those you know and love who struggle keeping up in an ever increasingly electronic world.

Ordination to the Sacred Order of Priests, Friday, Oct. 19
Wednesday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m. there will be a celebration of new ministry for the Rev. Dr. Stephen Shaver at Incarnation, Santa Rosa, 550 Mendocino Ave. A reception will follow. Clergy are invited to vest -- red stoles, please.

Racial reconciliation training in Eureka - Thursday, Oct. 6
The Semper Virens area racial reconciliation training will be 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 6 at Christ Church, Eureka. This training will be facilitated by leaders from the diocesan Commission for Intercultural Ministries. This day will provide an opportunity to come together as congregational leaders to learn how to help our worship communities appreciate and welcome the great diversity of people among us and around us, and to develop tools to work against the forces of racism in our world, and to be communities of reconciliation.
In our diocese, this training is required for all clergy, for all lay people who are engaged in ministries of governance (diocesan boards and commissions, as well as vestries and mission committees), along with licensed lay ministers.
This event is free, and lunch is included. Please

Service of Prayer, Lamentation in Santa Rosa - Sunday, Oct. 7
Join the parishioners of Incarnation, Santa Rosa,
Sunday, Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m., for a service of prayer and lamentation to commemorate the 2017 wildfires.
All are welcome to attend, and you may bring an object or photo for a prayer altar.

Work party at St. John's, Lakeport
- Saturday, Oct. 13
St. John's, Lakeport, is in need of some 'sprucing up,' including brass polishing, garden maintenance and window washing. The number of volunteers for each task has been determined: 2 brass polishers, 4 gardeners, 4 window washers. In addition, some equipment is needed; including a gas powered hedge trimmer and window washing equipment that can be used on a ladder to reach the second story.
As most of the work will be outside, please bring protective covering as it can be quite hot during the day. If you'd like to help, please bring a sack lunch, and sign up here.

Episcopal Relief & Development reveals new logo
ERD unveiled a new logo and tagline, to inspire and deepen engagement with supporters and program partners, and to better represent its work around the world.
The logo features colors that reinforce a connection to the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion. The tagline, "Working Together for Lasting Change," highlights the importance of collaboration, and achieving a measurable and sustained impact in all aspects of its global programs.
"I am excited about the fresh look. It is bold, forward-looking and energetic," said Rob Radtke, President & CEO for Episcopal Relief & Development. "The new logo reflects our core values and commitment to our faith while conveying how we work together with partners and supporters to create lasting change for communities worldwide."
Episcopal Relief & Development launched its current strategic plan in 2017. Working closely with staff, board and stakeholders across the Church and the Anglican Communion, the organization identified three signature
program priorities where it is making a measurable difference: Women, Children and Climate.

Applications are being accepted for Episcopal delegates to represent the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church at the 63rd Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) in New York City, March 11 - 22, 2019. The priority theme for this meeting is: "Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls." The Episcopal delegation will consist of one delegate from each province of the Episcopal Church as well as a delegate from the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe. Learn more.
