Association Update
From Nigel Marsh, Rolls-Royce plc

Dear AFRA Members,

As I'm leaving Rolls-Royce at the end of the year, this is unfortunately my last newsletter and official role as a Director of AFRA. So I must start by saying what a privilege it's been to be a part of the association and thank you all for improving my knowledge of this part of the aviation value chain. I've really enjoyed being a part of an association that adds such tremendous value to the life cycle management of an aircraft.

I'm a great supporter of sustainability and the need for product whole life thinking and so it's been really satisfying to be a part of AFRA and to learn more about our members. What you all do is so important in supporting sustainable aviation. Getting the most value from aircraft and their parts and minimising our reliance on finite resources has to be a great endeavour. Our work plays well to the modern concept of circularity. It's not that we're doing anything particularly radical, but we are a part of a meeting of minds and a growing approach to materials management across the industry, and leading rather than following. So there is much to build on and our strength is in doing this together and encouraging others through sharing best practices. We need to shout more about the positive value that we create and build a wider membership to maximise the opportunities. After all, it's an industry that will grow significantly over the coming years.

During my short tenure as a Director I've seen some great progress in the governance of the association and we're much stronger, both as a result of a dedicated Board of Directors and the support of Kellen.  I would like to wish you all the very best in your businesses and hopefully our paths will cross again someday - that would be rather nice.

Best regards,

Nigel Marsh
