Organizational Highlights
New Resources Available - Good Neighbor Authority Webpage
The Western Forestry Leadership Coalition’s (WFLC) Good Neighbor Authority (GNA) Information and Resources webpage was recently updated with materials from Wyoming State Forestry Division and USDA Forest Service Region 6. The webpage also features a new state spotlight highlighting the Nebraska Forest Service’s Master Agreement with Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands. 

The GNA Information and Resources webpage, launched in March 2021, serves as a western repository of relevant, timely GNA resources for state forestry agencies, federal agencies, and partners. 

Featured resources are updated on an ongoing basis. If you wish to submit a suggested resource for inclusion on the GNA Information and Resources webpage, please complete the Google Form
CWSF/WFLC Staff Update

Kelsey Cruickshank's last day with CWSF/WFLC was May 25. We wish her well in her future endeavors.
Member and Partner Updates

Bill Avey accepted the position of Acting Director for Fire and Aviation Management for the USDA Forest Service in Washington, D.C. He replaces Patty Grantham, who is retiring at the end of May.

Alicia San Gil accepted the position of Director for Forestry, Forest Health, and Cooperative Forestry for the USDA Forest Service Southwestern Region in Albuquerque, NM.

Policy Update
In response to Executive Order (EO) Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad directing federal agencies to coordinate a government-wide approach to combat the climate crisis, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack delivered a report detailing recommendations for a climate-smart agriculture and forestry strategy. A 90-day progress report on this strategy was released this month. In congressional news, the National Prescribed Fire Act of 2021 was introduced in both chambers on May 20.

2022 Wildfire Mitigation Awards
The National Association of State Foresters, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the National Fire Protection Association, and the USDA Forest Service announced the nomination period for the 2022 Wildfire Mitigation Awards.

The Wildfire Mitigation Awards are the highest national honor one can receive for outstanding work and significant program impact in wildfire preparedness and mitigation. Details, including the award selection criteria and a link to an online nomination form, are available at www.stateforesters.org/mitigation. Nominations are due Friday, November 12, 2021.
