Two weekends ago, our 2018 Diocesan Convention was held in Redding, where all who attended drove right through the smoke coming from the Camp Fire. Due to the disaster happening in the midst of convention, Episcopal Relief and Development gave an in-depth presentation on preparation and response.  Here is a PDF  of their presentation, which includes the emotional life cycle of a disaster.

Other noteworthy Convention happenings:

• In his address Bishop Barry reflected back on his episcopate and encouraged us to move forward in faith, building on our strengths.  Here is a copy  of his address; the video will be available soon.

• The people voted! The Rev. Christy Laborda Harris and the Rev. Debra Warwick-Sabino are the newest additions to the Board of Trustees. Nancy Mack, Jim Sargent, the Rev. Seth Kellerman and the Rev. Amy Denney Zuniga are the newest additions to the Standing Committee.

• Three resolutions were passed, which are available here. One is in regards to racial reconciliation and the last two were in regard to the dissolution of St. Francis, Fair Oaks.

Two beloved members of Faith, Cameron Park, Clay Abajian and Dick Tak, died in a plane crash on Nov. 15. Details about funeral services are pending.  Please continue to keep their family and friends in your prayers. 

The fourth year of our Pathways Youth Pilgrimage will be June 16-21, 2019. Pathways is a pilgrimage uniting youth to one another and to God, equipping them to be agents of truth, peace, and reconciliation. Led by the young adults who started Pathways, participants will spend the week together sharing meals, worshiping, having fun and traveling as pilgrims.

Pathways 2019 is open to all youth finishing grades 7-12. This fourth year of Pathways will take us to Humboldt County (our home base will be Humboldt State University) where we will explore matters of social and eco-justice as we journey to the Redwood Coast, visit historical indigenous sites, local churches, and meet with people in these communities who are engaging in the work of reconciling us and creation to God.

Episcopal Community Services and the Episcopal Foundation of Northern California are now accepting requests for proposal for the Anita Weaver Grant, which is designated to help homeless indigent seniors. For complete information, please see the Request for Proposal.

 

This is a two year grant of $15,000 in the first year, and if successfully completed, $7,500 for the second year. This grant provides an opportunity to develop a longer term program in collaboration with other congregations and/or city or county resources.  Currently the Arcata House Partnership Collaboration with St. Alban's, Arcata, is the grant recipient. They provide a safe warm alternative housing program, designed to help people get off the streets. Most of their clients are seniors.

 

Grant applications will be due by Jan. 15, 2019, and the grant award will be announced by Feb. 1.

On Sunday, Dec. 2 from 6 - 7:30 p.m., St. Clement's, Rancho Cordova, (2376 Zinfandel Dr.) will be hosting celebrated theologian, author, and priest, The Rev. Jeff Bullock, where he will give a lecture about his new book, "Practicing God's Radical  Forgiveness."
