As Bill Sees It
Before the coming of faith I had lived as an alien in a cosmos that too often seemed both hostile and cruel.

Step Three

Thinking about "On The Third Step" from the Book - Real AAs, Real Recovery "Step By Step"
"Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood him ."

Step 3 calls for affirmative actions. It is only by action that we can cut away the self-will which has always blocked the entry of God-or, if you like, a Higher Power-into our lives.

The Big Book uses even stronger words about self-will: "We alcoholics must be rid of this selfishness. We must or it kills us!"

And so, AAs move toward the action steps, where they prepare to take inventory, admit the nature of their wrongs, ask for help in removing their character defects, and make amends.

Step 3 making a decision, what it means to turn over their will and lives, and God as we understand him-or, for many AAs, as we don't understand God.

As a good agnostic, wrote in a 1981 Grapevine story; "Turning of my will and life over to the care of God as if we had an understanding had come first." It was only after years of searching that this agnostic let go of the need to understand God. "Everything is easier now that with a Higher Power that I understand."

"Good" replaces "God" in some AAs' beliefs. Others use AA itself, or "Ultimate Purpose of the Universe," or "Collective Wisdom" as their "Higher Power."

As an atheist wrote in a 1998 Grapevine story, a lot of people who... spend their time trying to find this "God they understand" in order to turn their will over to him/her,"..."There does not have to be a recipient of their will: All they have to do is let it go."

A.A. 's Freedoms
We trust that we already know what our several freedoms truly are; that no future generation of AAs will ever feel compelled to limit them. Our AA freedoms create the soil in which genuine love can grow...
(The Language of the Heart p 303)

As I sit here tonight wondering if we will get our freedom back and not have a fear of Covid-19, I crave freedom. I remember,
first to drink; later, freedom from drink. The A.A. program of recovery rests on a foundation of free choice. There are no mandates, laws or commandments. A.A.'s spiritual program, as outlined in the Twelve Steps, and by which I am offered even greater freedoms, is only suggested. I can take it or leave it. Sponsorship is offered, not forced, and I come and go as I will. It is these and other freedoms that allow me to recapture the dignity that was crushed by the burden of drink, and which is so dearly needed to support and enduring sobriety. The Serenity Prayer seems to come to mind;
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference. ONLINE MEETINGS
A.A Members
Self -Support

The Seventh Tradition states that Alcoholic Anonymous is self-supporting through our own contributions. The contributions help to cover the groups' expenses. But seventh Tradition is more than simply paying for rent and other group expenses. It is both a privilege and a responsibility of the individual groups and members to ensure that our organization, at every level, remains forever self-supporting and free of outside influences that might divert us from our primary purpose.

The monetary amount of each contribution is secondary to the spiritual connection that joins us in unity with A.A. groups around the world.

Some Things To Think About
Some facts:
  • Currently about 43.7% of groups contribute to the General Service Office
  • Costs of Services provided by G.S.O. (as of 2018) are approximately $7.40 per member per year
  • Gross profit from A.A. literature sales account for over 50% of G.S.O.'s revenue.
  • Your contributions help ensure the future of our Fellowship worldwide.

Personal thoughts:
  • What is the value of your sobriety?
  • Does your group know that contributions may be made online at AA.org?
  • Gratitude, expressed through contributions, reaches the still-uffering alcoholic. F-42

The River Cities Central Office

Currently our Office is having another improvement inside. The bathroom has been long over due for undated plumbing. The repairs that need completed could no longer wait. When you get sometime, drop by next month to see the change. Another new item from our Central Office work is "The Meeting Guide App" is up and running for our area. This app has a list of meeting by day.. LEARN

Currently the office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10AM to 3PM. Looking for more volunteers to help keep the office running.

Please keep in mind while meetings are online and the 7th tradition basket is not being passed around , our groups are still self supporting. The 7th Tradition is how Central Office Receives moneys. This year is going to be a challenge for all of us personally and at our Central Office. The office still has expenses and we alcoholics can still make a donations by doing the Faithful Fiver. This program is $5.00 a month to help the Central Office.

Central Office would like to give Thanks to the Groups who have practiced the Traditions and thru the Seventh Traditions support our office.

Please remember we all have Elections coming up at Central Office for "The Intergroup Committee Officers" they are voted into position. The are Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer. These positions are like all AA positions and have term limits. (Spirit of Rotation) Elections will be coming up sometime soon. If you are interested please come to a meeting to learn more.
