A Few Words from the President

Twice a year our congregation's governance requires that we come together to vote on key items which are broad enough and important enough to be considered and approved by the entire congregation. We historically have these congregational meetings in December and May. Our December meeting usually has the next year's budget to approve. Last month in addition to approving the budget, we also had some important work on bylaws revisions that we asked the congregation to approve.

What is the Live Oak Outreach Endowment all about?

Are you aware that Live Oak UU Church has an Endowment and that grants from this Endowment fund projects for UU Congregations, affiliated groups and non-profit civic organizations throughout the United States? Would you like to know more about this important Church outreach and possibly become involved? There will be a general orientation town hall meeting on Tuesday, January 28 at 6:00pm. While physical presence is preferred, if you want to participate, but cannot get to Live Oak, Zoom attendance is an option. Here's the video link:

Company's Coming to Live Oak - Hosts Needed!

UU the Vote Launch
Eight Live Oak members, along with UUs from Georgetown and Austin, joined 1500 UUs nationwide to learn how to put UU values into voting rights action our communities at the UU the Vote launch last Sunday. The UUA is providing strategy, resources and support for local teams wanting to become more engaged in voting rights. The Live Oak team, sponsored by our Social Action group, is considering potential partners in the community. Are YOU prepared for a Zombie Apocalypse?
Safety Team recruiting new members
Are you ready for the no-win scenario? If someone calls you a "prepper", do you feel a sense of pride? If you answered yes to any of these, and even if you didn't, Live Oak needs you. The Live Oak Safety Team needs more members to prepare the church for problems big and small. Not everything the Safety Team worries about is a big as active shooters. We are more likely to have to deal with a fire. The Safety Team researches the scenarios, develops a plan to deal with them, and then helps the church be ready if and when the time comes. Largely, we're trying to prevent the loss of life, limb, and property. If you are willing to help us with this big task, please email Mike Schultz. We are planning a meeting at the end of January. Even if you are not sure, you can attend and find out more.

Polytheistic Family Gathering Nights
Deities of the world are calling!
We welcome those who practice spiritual arts, animistic traditions, and/or polytheistic beliefs to join us in sharing community among diverse traditions. Come on by for simple family friendly rituals and discussion of your unfolding mystical experiences. We will have crafts available for children, but we encourage you to bring games and activities for kids to share. We are seeking to celebrate relationships with nature, to connect with the spiritual presence in our everyday lives, and to build supportive community and connection. We will be meeting 5-7 pm on the last Friday of month in the Common Ground Building our community means building our hearth space together. Bring food to share for a potluck dinner to nourish our bodies and spirits. We will supply plates, utensils, napkins and cups. We will not wash dishes on site, so plan accordingly. Help Distribute Food to Our Neighbors 
Live Oak Church will be distributing food to our neighbors at Fresh Food Friday. Please volunteer to help:
Friday, January 17th 8:30 am to 11:15 in the Live Oak parking lot. This is when we distribute the food to our neighbors. Volunteers are needed to set up and take down tables, help with the selection of food, and help carry food to our neighbors's cars. You do not need to remain the entire time.

Come join a circle of women who support each other - and not just with our handicrafts - on the third Tuesday of the month. And best of all, we typically share laughs while sharing crafty knowledge.

Faith Development
Here's what you need to know this week!
Elementary age continue a two-month unit, "Who's Who in UU?" focusing on black, indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) Unitarian Universalists. Middle and High School are invited to bring in music that reflects the society they want to live in or highlights the issues they see in society that go against our values as UUs.
Adults continue the five-week series called "The Corruption of Our Democracy." If you missed our opening session or session two, but want to join us for session three, you can catch up by watching the video,
Legalize Democracy and reading the preparatory handouts for sessions
two and
three. An additional documentary resource was suggested in Sunday's session, called "
The Corporation." Follow this blogpost on the website and in the newsletter for what happened each week so you can stay up to date if you miss out.
OWL for 4th and 5th grades ONLY will be offered on Sunday mornings from 10 - noon. Class size will be limited and open first to Live Oak members. Due to the potential size of this class, we are not opening it up to the community. If you haven't already indicated your interest, please complete the
interest form, and mark the following class dates on your calendar.

House Concert Fundraiser for Our Intern Minister

House concert fundraiser to get our intern minister, Kiya Heartwood through seminary (Starr King School for the Ministry).
Did you know that Kiya is an award-winning roots rock, and folk singer-songwriter? Honest testimony from having seen her 'in concert:' wonderful music and lyrics range from funny to heartrending. You do not want to miss this!
What: fundraiser/house concert
Cost: $15.00 per person, $25 per couple or sliding scale
Where: Dower house with light snacks, wine, beer and sparkling water provided. We are five minutes from the church.
