Second quarter/first semester will end next Thursday,
January 23 so students need to make sure they have turned in all missing assignments and taken all of the retests that are still allowed within our grading plan guidelines. Students will complete their second day of MAP Testing today with the results sent home with report cards in a few weeks. In addition, we finally received EOG reports from 2018-2019 in an organized manner that will allow us to distribute with report cards as well. Please look for all of these documents to be coming home on Thursday, February 6.
We will begin our rising 6th grade transition process for the 5th grade families at our three feeder elementary schools. I have attached the flyer that outlines the events for parents and kids to help make the transition to middle school as smooth as possible. Click here for flyer.
Student absences
- Attendance at school is important as just about every piece of research will attest. Good attendance and being on-time for school also sets kids into good habits that they will carry into adulthood. As we move through cold and flu season, please send in a note if your student is out sick so it can be marked as an excused absence. Also, if you are going on a trip that could be categorized as an "educational opportunity", please complete the form so that these absences can be excused as well. Finally, CMS requires an official letter to be sent home when your child accumulates 3, 6, and 10 days of unexcused absences. We also send letters home for students who have missed 10 or more total school days.
Congrats to Abby White for being a CMS 2020 Math Problem of the Week Winner. Students from across CMS compete each week with completing difficult problems created by the CMS Math Director.
Congratulations to Gustavo Cruz! He auditioned for and earned second chair tenor saxophone in the 2020 All-District Symphonic Honors Band. He also is eligible to try out for All-State. He will participate in the South Central District Honors Band Clinic on January 24th and 25th.

Lighthouse Recognition Status
Our school will be seeking "Lighthouse Recognition Status" for the work we have done with Leader In Me over the past 4-5 years. Only a few hundred schools in the world have attained this recognition, most of which are elementary schools. We completed a mock evaluation before the break which showed that we have almost all of the pieces in place to join this elite group of schools later this year.
In order to do so, we need to establish a Parent Lighthouse Team in January. This group of parents should be those who currently use some or all of the 7 Habits with their kids at home and wish to help guide other families to do the same. If you are interested in serving on this team, please send Mr. Thomas an email by Friday, January 17.

International Night
Bailey Middle School's annual "International Night" is scheduled for
Thursday evening, February 20th. This annual event showcases and celebrates the diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds of the families at our school. This event is a great way to introduce Bailey students and their families to customs and traditions from all over the world. Every year the event gets bigger and better!
We are looking for parents and students to volunteer as ambassadors for their country/region by decorating a booth, dressing in traditional clothing, and sharing art, food, music, games, etc. Bailey will provide the tables for the booths.
As an incentive to volunteer, students that participate with their families by setting up a booth will receive extra credit (bonus points) in their choice of subject. Students that attend the event and get their passport stamped will receive extra credit in Social Studies.

Tickets are $10 and go on sale next week!
This event is for Bailey Middle School 6th grade students only.
