The chancel floor is in! This is one of the most recent major accomplishments of the Sanctuary Preservation and Readiness Project. We worked hard to ensure we matched the previous white oak floor. You can also see the restored lancet stained glass windows above the baptistery.
Formal construction by our general contractor, Armstrong Associates, continues apace. We lost considerable time due to various subcontractors either contracting COVID-19 or self isolating. We also saw a delay of many weeks related to Southern California Edison's scheduling delays to get permanent electricity turned on. You are getting the picture: It's been a challenge to keep everyone moving forward to finish construction! Rest assured we remain laser focused on getting the formal construction completed so that we can turn to moving back into our reconstructed Sanctuary.
Here are a few tasks currently under way or completed:
- Exterior carpentry: just a few trim elements remain to be installed
- Interior carpentry: the final woodworking of our new accessibility lift is going in and we are hopeful the lift itself will be installed and the necessary inspections completed by late March
- Memorial Chapel: the interior of the Memorial Chapel with columbarium is nearly complete with trim and ceiling work under way
- Windows: all window frames, sashes and safety glass are onsite and being installed
- HVAC: now that electricity is fully onsite, we can begin charging the system, pressurizing it and conducting testing/fine tuning
- Flooring: all the wood flooring is now complete and the vinyl floor in the back of the house is just about finished
- Plumbing: sinks, mirrors, toilets, etc. will begin to go in at the end of this week
Once the "punch list" is reviewed and items checked off, we will turn attention to a long list of activities to put everything back together. Stay tuned as we learn more about the schedule of completion.
