Update to Critical Infrastructure Sectors
On Saturday, the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) issued a memorandum updating the sixteen Critical Infrastructure Sectors by identifying workers within those sectors.

Specifically related to real estate professionals, the memorandum contains these two categories of workers:

  • Workers responsible for the leasing of residential properties to provide individuals and families with ready access to available housing.
  • Residential and commercial real estate services, including settlement services.

Interestingly, the CISA memorandum did not update/clarify one of the existing sixteen Sectors. Rather, the memorandum created two new Sectors - Other Community - Or Government Based Operation and Essential Functions and Residential/Shelter Facilities and Services. The importance of this change, in effect, is just to make it clear that the leasing and sales of residential properties is included in the CISA Sectors. Leasing and sales of commercial property is included in the Commercial Property Sector specific plan.

This new addendum adds clarity to real estate professionals and their clients that they can continue to provide real estate services and leasing activities without violating the California Governor's shelter in place order.

NAR and CAR have also issued advisories as to providing real estate services as safely as possible. The NAR advisory can be found HERE . The latest alert from CAR relating to the CISA memorandum can be found HERE .
