It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like ... Well, Maybe Not Christmas Exactly

The exterior of the new Memorial Chapel "bump out" is getting its roof.

While construction is scheduled for completion early in 2021, the site still looks a lot like, well, a construction site. Don't be fooled! While there is still quite a lot of work left to do, it's all coming together in a highly choreographed sequence of finishing tasks.

In the photos and videos below, check out some of the following:

New flooring for the nave and chancel sits inside the new space, acclimating to our seaside climate
Painting and staining throughout the interior
New steel columns encased in wood and wrapped for protection
New custom pendant lamps
The reredos sitting in place at the back of the chancel, albeit heavily crated for protection
New drywall and/or plaster
New organ speakers
New window sashes, frames and protective glass
New woodwork in various areas of the ceiling
New board and batten interior walls around the chancel and new Memorial Chapel

The west wall of the Sanctuary has all new drywall/plaster and paint. Like the bulk of the building, the baptistery was completely rebuilt with new foundation, floor, walls, ceiling and windows!

Last week saw the arrival of the flooring for the nave and chancel. We spent nearly a year analyzing various options to replace our previous wood plank flooring. The number one goal has been to match our old color and grain as closely as possible. We are very excited about the choices. Installation will begin toward the end of the month and is among the very last steps to be taken before construction is completed. The installation of the stained glass windows must follow the installation of the floor, however.

Check out the new board and batten entrance wall to the Memorial Chapel with Columbarium. It will be stained to match our previous dark wood walls.

Painting and staining has begun in earnest now that the drywall, plaster and new wood throughout the nave have nearly been completed.

We still have a few stain colors to pick to match some of our previous woodwork. Samples being prepared here for us to check out.

The pews have been refurbished and while they still show their age, the facelift they received make them look great. These are sitting in the dining room of the Parish House, waiting on their new/old home in the Sanctuary.
