Compassionate Hearts

Greetings in the Name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

The Apostle Paul says that we are to "put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness and patience." (Colossians 3:12)

As we continue this journey during the time of the Coronavirus, I want to remind our churches and pastors to obey the ordinances of your state. All drive-through events are being discouraged in some states now. No more than 10 should ever be in a room together and social distancing rules need to be strictly observed. Where we are being asked to shelter in place, observe curfews and quarantines, we must comply. We need to have hearts of patience, humility and meekness during this pandemic. This vigilance should continue until further notice, likely well beyond April 30th.

Our conference offices are working on a letter for pastors that certifies that they are clergy. This can be used if a pastor is stopped by a law enforcement officer, while engaging in pastoral duties. Most ministerial work should be done at home, through electronic means, but in case of an emergency, this could be helpful.

We are in conversation about rescheduling our June annual conference and more information will be forthcoming in the weeks to come, as we are able to make these arrangements. Safety is our first priority. We remain prayerful and hopeful as we move through these challenging times.

Keep shining your wonderful lights for the Lord during this time. It is a time like none other, full of opportunity for compassion and kindness.

Prayerfully yours,
Bishop Peggy A. Johnson
