Head of School's Welcome to the 2020-21 School Year
Dear Storm King Community;

With our fall semester about to begin, I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome all of our new and returning students and families to the 2020-2021 school year at The Storm King School.

The first steps of our plan to reopen the School have gone very well, thanks to the hard work of our faculty and staff, and your cooperation and support. Our campus is always a beautiful place but it is more complete when our students and faculty are here engaging in learning and growing together. After so many quiet months, it is exciting to re-engage all of our students whether in-person or online.

Two weeks ago, our faculty returned to campus for a week of orientation and preparation. Last week our new international students arrived on campus. This week, returning boarding students are arriving, and next week our day students will complete the registration process.

As boarding students complete their quarantine time, and classes, after-school activities and meals together in the dining hall get fully underway, all of us will celebrate the increased activity and return to normal campus life.

Over the next two weeks we will hold Zoom sessions to answer questions for our local day parents and our international and online families. The Zoom session for local day parents will be held Saturday, September 5th at 10 am. You will receive information about how to connect to these sessions via email.

As one requirement of our reopening this fall, we asked all of the members of our Storm King Community to abide by the ‘community health pledge.’ The opening of this pledge reads as follows:

The Storm King School has long emphasized our core values of Truth, Respect, and Responsibility. Now, in the midst of a global pandemic, these values, and our adherence to them, have never been more important. As members of the Storm King School community, we must all commit ourselves to the highest standard of personal and collective care. The health and wellness of ourselves, our family members, friends, teachers, and School are in each other’s hands.

To those of you who travel back and forth to campus each day, I ask that you do all you can to keep yourself healthy and safe when you are traveling and at home. In the spirit of keeping our school community safe, please limit your exposure by avoiding crowds and settings where you might contact those who have the virus. And follow all of the prevention protocols like wearing a mask, washing your hands frequently, and monitoring your health when off campus. We will work to enforce these standards with all who live on campus as well. Caring for each other together in this way will help us all keep our school open for in-person teaching and learning.

This fall, The Storm King School begins its 153rd year. Despite the challenges, we are confident it will be another vibrant and exciting year for all of our students. Thank you for being a part of our Storm King School family.
Sincerely,
Jonathan W.R. Lamb, Head of School
