 November 22, 2018 - December 2, 2018
City Offices Closed in Observance of Thanksgiving Holiday - All city offices will be  closed on  Thursday, November 22 and  Friday, November 23 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.  This includes the 18th District Court and the Westland Public Library.  Trash pick up will also be delayed by one day beginning Thursday through the rest of the week.  
 
Small Business Saturday - For the fifth year, the City of Westland is celebrating Small Business Saturday and this year, is encouraging everyone to get involved. Small Business Saturday, which started in 2010, falls on the Saturday after Thanksgiving and is the counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  This year, it takes place on  Saturday, November 24.  The holiday encourages shoppers to patronize local, small businesses. You can visit www.cityofwestland.com to view all of the sales going on in Westland for the event.  

Stuff a SWAT Truck -  The Westland Police Department will again be holding Stuff a SWAT Truck on Sunday November 25. The event will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Target store located at 35401 Warren Rd, (Warren between Wayne and Central City Parkway).  New this year, they will be offering FREE pictures with Santa Claus with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy! 
The Stuff a SWAT Truck event is held to benefit the Westland Goodfellows "No Child Without a Christmas" program, and supplies local children with presents that they might otherwise not receive.


Scheduled Upcoming Civic Meetings - Residents are invited to attend the upcoming City meetings.  Below is a list of the meetings with their date, time and location:

Civil Service Commission
  • Will meet on  Tuesday, November 27  at 4:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.
Historical Commission
  • Meeting will take place on 
    Tuesday, November 27 
    at 7:00 p.m at the Westland Historic Village Park, located at 857 N. Wayne Rd.
Downtown Development Authority
  • The DDA meeting will be held on Thursday, November 29 at 8:00 a.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd.  

Mayor Wild's 2018 State of the City -  On Tuesday, November 27, Mayor William R. Wild will be holding his Annual State of the City Address at 6:00 p.m. at Westland City Hall, located at 36300 Warren Rd. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. with light refreshments being served.  This year's State of the City will be a townhall style event, where the Mayor and members of his administration will share information on all the progress the city has made this past year as well as an outlook for 2019.

Friday Night Movie - The William P. Faust Westland Public Library will host their Friday Night Movie on Friday, November 30 at 6:00 p.m.  This week's movie is Mama Mia!  Here We Go Again (Rated PG-13).  Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. at the movie will begin at 6:15 p.m. with snacks and refreshments provided.  Donations are accepted and appreciated.  The library is located at 6123 Central City Parkway.  

Lightfest -  The  holiday season is right around the corner. Christmas is a time of traditions for many people, and one Westland tradition is the LightFest on Hines Drive. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the longest drive-thru holiday light display in the Midwest. For a small donation you can drive through five miles of spectacular displays that are sure to get you into the holiday spirit. The LightFest attracts people from all over the region every year because new displays and features are added annually. LightFest officially opens on Thursday, November 15 and is open nightly through December 31st. For specific hours and details, please call 734-261-1990.
