This Sunday, June 9...

Day of Pentecost
"Walking in the Spirit"
Reminders
One Worship Service for Pentecost at 10:00 a.m.
followed by a Potluck meal in the Fireside Room.

To the members and friends of Our Savior’s,

This Sunday the church celebrates Pentecost, the third major festival of the Christian faith. Pentecost, as mentioned in Act 2:1 is a Jewish festival of thanksgiving, whereby Jews would gather to thank and praise God for the spring harvest. We’re told in Acts 2 that as the disciples of Jesus gathered in one place on Pentecost, suddenly there was the sound of a violent wind filling the whole house. There were also what appeared to be ‘tongues of fire’ resting upon those gathered.  As the events unfold these sights and sounds came to be viewed as the manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Peter points out that the Old Testament prophet Joel has prophesied that God would “pour out his Spirit upon all people.” In time, Christians would view Pentecost as the outpouring of the Spirit, celebrating the day as the birth of the church.

In preparation for Pentecost I invite you to read Acts 2:1-21. I also invite you to wear something RED as it’s the color of the day. Please know that following worship we’ll gather for a congregational meal to which all are invited. During that meal we’ll take a moment to honor Pastor Louie Brunner for his 60 years of ordained ministry.

It is my hope and prayer that you’ll be in worship this Sunday to celebrate Pentecost. It’s also my hope and prayer that you’ll invite others to join us.

In celebration of Pentecost,

Pastor Kim
