September 2018
A Word from the Executive Director
Greetings Chamber Membership!

I have had a busy first few days as the Executive Director.  I attended a Roundtable discussion with Congressman Walz's Office.  Each year his office visits every county in the district to simply listen; and listen they did.  Rep Walz is delivering a swan song in the form of H.R. 6383: The Small Town and Regional Vitality Investment Act of 2018.  This is a bill that he is introducing will inject dollars into small towns and local governments with a population of 30,000 or less.  The best part of it is, the myriad of things it can be used for: infrastructure, deploying broadband, and quality child care are just a few.

The City, the School, and the Chamber are working together to deliver a conference on Opportunity Zones.  This conference will bring in the necessary professionals to learn about OZ and how it can benefit both investors and Waseca.  I'm sure many of you have heard of the program, but maybe aren't totally sure what it is or what it means for our community.  The most basic description I can offer is, it's a special designation given to an area that allows investors deferred tax liability when gains are made from investments in those designated areas.  The date for that conference is October 30th; look for more information to come!

In the weeks to come I will be working on the Business and Industry Luncheon, promoting the Southern MN Tour of Manufacturers, putting together a fundraiser for the Ambassadors, the budget for 2019, and meeting with prospective members.

I want to thank you for all of the welcome wishes during my infancy with the Chamber; having the support of the membership makes serving that much more rewarding.  In 2019 I will make a visit to your business or organization, but in the meantime, please do not hesitate to reach out to me for any reason. My cell phone number is 507-676-0988.

Best Regards,
Ann Fitch
Executive Director
