Year Without a Summer, Art Erupts: From Missoula to the World -Virtual Gallery Opening
[Event Recap: Wednesday, November 14th, 4pm]
Big THANK YOU to everyone who joined us last week for the opening of the Virtual Gallery, "Year Without a Summer, Art Erupts: From Missoula to the World". Dr. Udo Fluck, Director of Global & Cultural Affairs, Courtney Blazon, local Missoula artist, and Becca MacLean, Public Art Coordinator, presented and discussed the online gallery with the crowd present in the Branch Center. It was such a pleasure to share this project with the community! Global and Cultural Affairs in Arts Missoula is excited to have the opportunity to bring local Missoula art to the globe; specifically our sister cities. "It was rewarding to see the community coming together to witness and celebrate local art with global access. We are now able to utilize innovative virtual reality software to bridge distances between local and global communities, promoting cultural awareness all the way to our sister cities in New Zealand and Germany ", Dr. Udo Fluck, Director of Global and Cultural Affairs in Arts Missoula. Courtney Blazon's art series, Year Without a Summer, incorporates many global themes that bridge together different countries as well as components of political science, creative writing, world history, natural history, climate science, and much more. "I am excited and thrilled to be part of this global project with Arts Missoula! Makes me proud to be an artist here in Missoula!", Courtney Blazon, Missoula Artist.
We would like to thank KUFM Radio, the Branch Center and the University Center on the University of Montana campus for their support and resources. Also, thank you to Barbara Koostra, the Executive Director of the Montana Museum of Art and Culture for her support
during this project. Lastly, thank you to Kunstmatrix, in Berlin, Germany, the website platform used for this pilot program.
The virtual gallery is now posted on the Arts Missoula website: HERE. We invite you to explore on your own computer! We plan to make final touches to the gallery, create an informational Youtube video with Courtney to provide further details, and ultimately to send it to our sister cities in Palmerston North, New Zealand and Neckargemund, Germany! Stay tuned for updates on this exciting endeavor. Please call the Arts Missoula office, (406)-541-0860 with questions.
