GRACE - did you know?!

A Note From Pastor Linda

From Ephesians 2: For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God...

Dear Friends in Christ~

GRACE. It is a word thrown around a lot in the Lutheran Church, but what is it? Consider this definition:

Grace is love that seeks you out when you have nothing to give in return. Grace is love coming at you that has nothing to do with you. Grace is being loved when you are unloveable. Grace is a love that has nothing to do with you, the beloved- and has everything and only to do with the lover, God. Grace reflects a decision on the part of the giver, the one who loves, in relation to the receiver, the one who is loved, that negates all qualifications the receiver may personally hold... Grace is one-way love! (From Paul Zahl)

Here is the "DID YOU KNOW": Did you know that Hosanna has a GRACE FUND for people (or organizations that help people) in need of assistance, to get back on track, or to get over a bump in life? This fund is used at the discretion of the pastors and Church Council. The fund has been used for many things such as:
  • To help fund medical co-pays so that necessary treatment can continue.
  • In collaboration with other churches to help get a family into secure housing.
  • In collaboration with the Forest Lake School District to help a family make a necessary move.
  • In support of Rangers Supporting Rangers- providing kids with weekend backpacks of quick and convenient food.
  • In support of Coats for Kids*- providing winter-wear for kids in the Forest Lake School District. Kids who are identified by their teachers as kids in need.
  • In support of the Hosanna Room at St. Andrew's Family Shelter in Hugo- a collaboration of area partners.

We give these funds away as agents of Jesus' love in the world- that's GRACE! We expect nothing in return but experience the joy in giving on Hosanna's behalf. During the months of September, October and November- the offering collected during LightHouse worship will be directed to the Grace Fund. Thank you for your giving, above and beyond your General Fund gifts.

See you in Church- on Wednesday AND Sunday!

Got Questions? Get Answers.
Fall Sunday Series

Everyone has questions.  Young children ask "why?"  Teenagers ask "why not?"  Adults question "what if?"  Do you have questions about God, Jesus, the Bible?  Do you have questions about life?  Do you have questions for God about life?  Every day, more and more people are going to Siri or Alexa or Google to find answers to their questions about and for God.  I have a better idea:  Come to Hosanna to "get answers."

The Sun Does Shine:  How I Found Life and Freedom on Death Row by Anthony Ray Hinton and Lara Love Hardin

An unforgettable, haunting story of a terrible injustice that was done to a black man from Alabama, Ray Hinton. In 1985 Anthony Ray Hinton was convicted of a crime he didn't commit and sentenced to die by execution. Ray spent nearly thirty years on death row before the state of Alabama admitted that they had made a mistake, and set him free.

Sleep Out 2018
November 3-4
Time: Saturday 5:00 p.m. - Sunday 12 noon *Arrive no later than 6:30 pm to set up otherwise dark and hard to construct sleeping unit.

Who: Students Grades 7- Adult (Others welcome, kids Grade 6 and under can stay with an adult until 10:30 pm.)

There is NO COST to participate, but pre-registration is required. On the night of the event, participants must check in by 6:30 pm at Hosanna (front lawn).

This is an experiential educational event, participants will be experiencing one night without a home. Although it doesn't begin to touch the realities many face however, it does allow us to acknowledge the problem (homelessness, food insecurity, lack of affordable housing, livable wages, etc.), think about how we might be a part of a solution and develop a deeper sense of Gratitude. Giving even one night will make a difference.
