Nominating Committee Announced
The Nominating Committee for the July 28, 2019 Annual Meeting consists of Judy Miller, Ann Tarlton, Jackie Wilson and Pete Dane. Nominations will be made for Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Clerk, Treasurer (all one year terms), one Vestry Member (3 year term) along with two delegates and two alternates to the Diocesan Convention.

Search Committee Update
This week the Search Committee has been in conversation with Michael Ambler concerning the package we will be offering a new priest. We are nearing completion of our Portfolio and we hope to soon post the position.

This Sunday June 9th is Pentecost Sunday
In many
churches the color Red is worn on this Sunday. It symbolizes the flames that came down on the disciples while they were in the upper room. This is the energizing flame of the Holy Spirit that gave the disciples the ability to go and preach the story of the "Good News."

Education and Spiritual Development Ministry
Book Study on Thomas Merton
Thomas Merton, 1915-2018, bearer of many labels: Mystic, Social Activist, Teacher, Poet, Painter, Photographer, Prophet, Scholar, Diarist, Rebel, Hermit, Catholic, Contemplative, Christian Existentialist. Now, more than a century since his birth and months past the 50th anniversary of his death, people of diverse backgrounds and traditions continue to seek his wisdom. As the labels suggest, his legacy affords many avenues of approach.
We are planning a book study and discussion group to focus on a common text: Love and Living, edited by Naomi Burton Stone and Brother Patrick Hart, a selection of Merton's writings on a range of subjects and grounded in his core reality, Love.
Anne Cushman, former Deer Isle resident and long-time student of Merton,
will select the readings and facilitate discussions. Interests and needs of
participants will help to shape conversations.
These sessions will be held on June 17th, June 24th and July 1st at 2:30 in St. Brendan's Hall. The book, Love and Living, will be available at the Blue Hill Book Store or can be ordered online.

Day of Pentecost:
Today we conclude the fifty days celebrating our redemption in the Lord's death, resurrection, ascension, and his sending the Holy Spirit to the Church. It is the presence of God's Spirit in the Church, which makes God's action in the dying and rising of Jesus of more than historical interest. It is the continued presence of the Holy Spirit which incorporates our lives into the risen life of Christ and makes us part of his Body.
This is one of the times in the year when Holy Baptism is particularly appropriate, for it is in baptism that we received the Spirit and were made partakers in the resurrection life.
In the Gospel reading today, Jesus, before his crucifixion, assures the disciples that his followers will continue the work of the Gospel after his departure. Indeed, he will not be absent; he promises to dwell with his people through his Spirit whom the Father will send.
In the first reading, we hear the story of the tower of Babel when human language was confused to prevent humans from trying to go to God's home on their own.
In the reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we hear the account of the first Pentecost when the Apostles received the Spirit and proclaimed the gospel in many tongues. In the reading from Romans, Paul tells us that it is God's Spirit who enables us to speak to God and call God "Father." The Spirit is leading us through the dying and rising of Jesus to become fully children of God.
We are a people made new by God's Spirit in baptism. As we renew our baptismal covenant today, we renew our commitment to that new life and we rejoice with those baptized on this day.

We pray for all those serving in the armed forces of our country, remembering, especially, Craig, Chris, Graham, and Caleb.
We pray for all who govern, and we pray for the concerns of our local community, remembering, especially, our children, our young people, and our isolated elderly.
We pray for Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Suheil, Bishop of Jerusalem; Michael, our Presiding Bishop; Steve, our Bishop; for the members of our vestry; and for all our members, whose ministries are varied and far-reaching.
