Joining forces to support public education
Cass County Kids First completes 5 years of advocacy
This is the fifth year that public school districts in Cass County have come together as "Cass County Kids First" to share concerns and endorse a list of legislative priorities.  Members of Cass County Kids First met with legislators for breakfast today (June 7) at the Archie School District.

Legislators talked with school officials about the 2019 session and topics including early childhood education and funding, school calendars, charter schools, and vouchers.

Rep. Rodger Reedy, R-57 and Rep. Donna Pfautsch, R-33, attended the event. Reedy shared some of his experiences as a freshman representative. Archie School Superintendent Jeff Kramer welcomed the group, and Ruth Johnson, Ray-Pec School Board President, moderated the event.

Cass County Kids First includes Board of Education members and administrators from all of the county's public school districts.  The group plans to reconvene next year.
You can find more about the group on Facebook or Twitter.
Summer maintenance and improvement projects
With Summer School in session and families enjoying summer, work is under way to get schools ready to welcome students back in the fall. Ray-Pec's Buildings and Grounds crews are busy, in some cases with the help of outside contractors.

A variety of projects and equipment upgrades are taking place to maintain facilities and enhance the learning environment.  Some of the projects include:
  • Replacement of playground surface and equipment at Stonegate Elementary
  • Partial roof replacement at Peculiar Elementary
  • Replace carpet in Timber Creek Elementary classrooms
  • Replace turf on stadium field
  • Install playground turf in sensory areas at Shull Early Learning
  • Replace track surface at high school stadium
  • Parking lot crack-seal, seal-coat, and patch work
  • Paint multiple gyms at high school and south middle school
  • Replace cooler and freezer at Timber Creek Elementary
  • Replace freezer at high school
  • New truck with snow plow and utility van for Buildings and Grounds
The projects were reviewed by the School Board earlier this year and are part of the District's 5-year Facility Maintenance Plan. Many of these projects were made possible thanks to the community's approval of the Prop R-P levy increase in April 2018.

In addition to the projects listed above, the Buildings and Grounds Department will clean and wax floors and paint areas throughout the District.
