President's Message:
CNYWBA PROMOTES CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
A traditional hallmark of the legal profession is civic engagement. As a professional association comprised of lawyers, judges, law professors and law students, the Central New York Women's Bar Association ("CNYWBA") encourages its members to become civically engaged and commends those who volunteer their valuable time and legal skills to make a difference in a broad array of community projects.
CNYWBA endeavors to offer its members opportunities for civic engagement. In this update, we highlight some current opportunities, including a voter registration drive and "get out the vote" initiatives. CNYWBA is also pleased to
host its annual judicial reception next Thursday, October 4th where guests will be afforded the opportunity to meet the judicial candidates and honor members of the judiciary. We encourage you to register in advance for this popular event held at Upstairs at the Dino:

Finally, CNYWBA is proud to support the next generation of civic leaders. CNYWBA recently sponsored two girls who participated in a leadership program titled, Camp Congress for Girls Syracuse 2018, held last weekend. Part of the Girls in Politics Initiative™, Camp Congress introduces girls ages 10 to 15 to the American political system.
We encourage you to get involved in our community, particularly with projects about which you are passionate. We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events!

| Get Out the Vote Initiative
Onondaga Votes! is a non-partisan coalition comprised of volunteers from a variety of organizations including the League of Women Voters, which received a grant from the Gifford Foundation to increase voter participation. The first ever voter registration drive at the Onondaga County Justice Center was organized in 2016 by the Central New York Women's Bar Association, which is participating again in this year's voter registration drive. People and organizations interested in volunteering for upcoming voter registration and get out the vote events may contact the League of Women Voters of the Syracuse Metropolitan Area at 315-396-8225.

Registration is Now Open
October 2-4, 2018
NYSBA's Partnership Conference is the premier civil legal services educational and networking conference in New York State. The Partnership Conference is attended by leaders of civil legal service organizations and private law firms from across New York State.
The conference will provide over thirty programs, covering a diverse range of subjects, including program innovation and management, technology and substantive legal topics, such as immigration, foreclosure, domestic violence, government benefits, and housing, among others.
The New York State Bar Association's Committee on Legal Aid is pleased to call for nominations for the 2018 Denison Ray Civil Awards and the Phil Dailey Award. These awards will be presented at the Denison Ray Awards Dinner on October 3, 2018. Please see this nomination form for more details.

I-81 Project Manager
The NYCLU seeks to employ a highly qualified individual to manage and execute our work related to the replacement of the I-81 viaduct in Syracuse, New York. This position is based in Syracuse and reports to the Advocacy Director in the New York City office, and the Chapter Director in Syracuse.
The NYCLU seeks to influence the I-81 viaduct project to protect and expand the civil rights and liberties of people in Syracuse who will be most heavily impacted. This project implicates many areas of our work including racial and economic justice, due process of law, government transparency, democratic participation, and school and housing segregation.
