Saturday, June 1, 2019.  

Did you know? The Tulane Learning Management System is home to several hurricane, emergency and public health preparedness-related courses.

Available trainings include Crisis Management, Disaster Responder Health and Safety, Decision Making in Disasters: Lessons from the Field, Staffing for Emergency Response and Recovery and Utilizing Government Resources in a Disaster.

New Partner Spotlight: Olawale Dudubo
Please help us welcome Olawale Dudubo to the Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center team!

Olawale will serve as a graduate research assistant for the Oklahoma Public Health Training Center. Olawale earned a Bachelor's degree in Dentistry in Nigeria and a Master’s degree in Dental Public Health from Queen Mary University of London.

Olawale is about to start his second year of doctoral training in the department of Health Promotion Sciences at the Hudson College of Public Health at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. His academic interests include oral health disparities, chronic diseases and use of common risk factors approach in health promotion.

Region 6 South Central Public Health Training Center team members attended The National Network of Public Health Institutes (NNPHI) 's Annual Conference May 20-22, 2019 in Washington D.C.
This year’s conference theme was
“From Ideas to Innovation:
Partnerships, Policy and Practice.”

Course Spotlight:
Vector-borne Diseases of Public Health Importance


The Vector-Borne Diseases of Public Health Importance course provides the basic knowledge needed by the Environmental Public Health Workforce to help them protect the communities they serve from Vector-borne Diseases of environmental origin, and educate the public and the partners with whom they work, particularly in the area of vector control.

Learning Objectives:
  • Identify the most important disease causing vectors in the US
  • Classify the basics of vector biology,
  • Recognize how vectors transmit disease,
  •  Differentiate the diseases each vector can transmit
  • Explain basic basic vector borne disease pathology

Tribal Behavioral Health

The Tribal Behavioral Health curriculum is designed to provide general guidance and
understanding to increase the knowledge of behavioral health in the American Indian/Alaska Native (AI/AN) population and among tribal health departments, including issues and challenges — and organizations seeking to improve AI/AN behavioral health.

The 4 courses included in this curriculum will cover several topics related to behavioral health in the AI/AN population, including historical trauma and current issues. Descriptions of some of the programs and organizations that are working to improve AI/AN behavioral health will also be presented.
