Jordan Casteel: Returning the Gaze will feature nearly 30 paintings by Denver-born artist Jordan Casteel, who is now based in Harlem, New York. This presentation represents Casteel’s first major museum exhibition, and provides audiences with a first look at new work by one of the most acclaimed emerging artists working today.
The exhibition will bring together a body of work made from 2014 to 2018, with new paintings that reveal Casteel’s evolving practice and a shift in subject matter ranging from cityscapes and subway scenes to women and local business owners. Casteel’s approach to selecting subjects involves walking around her neighborhood and taking photographs. By transforming these photographs into larger-than-life portraits with subtle shifts in light, bold colors, and gestural brushwork, Casteel reveals individuals and atmospheres that often go unnoticed.

Thru Aug 24| 10:00 am - 6 pm | Museo de las Americas | Gen. Adm.
Liminal Space is a transitional or transformative space. A waiting area between one point in time and space and the next. Just like how our cultures and communities are diverse and varied, so too is the beautiful, enchanting and creative history of art. Thankfully being Latino isn't just a singular experience and in this exhibition you will see how these creative local artists are taking the knowledge and tradition of the past and its experiences and transforming our perceptions about cultural interpretations and identities into something that is new and original.
In this exhibition, the artists and their creative vision represent a basis of exploration for the audience's own Liminal Space, through which they develop a sense of their own experience and interpretation. It is easy to fall under the illusion that looking at art is a simple thing. However, the work in this show is not about what are you looking at but what is it you see.

Thru Aug 25 | 10:00 am - 6 pm | Denver Museum of Nature & Science | Gen. Adm.

There's a place from which nothing escapes, not even light, where time and space literally come to end. It's at this point, inside this fantastic riddle, that black holes exert their sway over the cosmos … and our imaginations.
In this Museum-produced show, zip through other-worldly wormholes, experience the creation of the Milky Way Galaxy, and witness the violent death of a star and subsequent birth of a black hole. Mathematical equations, cutting-edge science, and Einstein's theories fill in holes along the way, providing the most complete picture yet on this mysterious phenomenon. Can you feel the pull?

Comedy at its Rawest
Enjoy comedy the way it's intended. No holds barred, no punches pulled, and no f**ks given. Thick Skin is a show where amateur and national touring comedians compete for cash prizes to see who can be the funniest person in the room. However, as much as “Good” comedy is rewarded ... “Bad” comedy is ridiculed by the show’s host Comedian Mike Stanley and a rotating cast of his comedian friends.
Insightful, crass and just plain hilarious, Mike Stanley is a fifteen year comedy veteran. Stanley was named “Best Chicago Stand-up Comedian” in a People's Choice poll done by the Chicago Reader and “Best Detroit Comedian” by HOUR Magazine. Mike tours internationally and has performed at several festivals including the Oddball Comedy Festival, and TBS Just For Laughs Festival.

Can't say more than that -- it's an NDA thing. But I guarantee you've never seen something like this before. Am I overpromising? Maybe. You'll just have to come see for yourself.
I'll even have some very special, brand new stuff for sale. Come wear out my autograph arm!
I promise this'll be worth getting out of bed. See you soon :D

Miners Alley Playhouse has commissioned award-winning playwright Josh Hartwell to write the compelling, untold, and true story of Mae Brussell, considered to be America’s first mainstream conspiracy theorist during the 1960's and 1970's. The one-time Queen of Conspiracy attracted an audience of thousands. Her radio shows analyzed public government records to link the JFK and RFK assassinations with the Watergate scandal. Loyal fans and celebrities looking to make sense of an increasingly complex, crazy world were hungry for Brussell's version of the truth. With humor and wit, Josh Hartwell's new drama, set in present-day Denver, imagines the family who inherits Brussell's legacy. The play also explores what a conspiracy is, and the difference between today's conspiracy theories and those of the past.

“It is rare to find a vocal artist that can maneuver between genres while maintaining a genuine authenticity of each and the integrity of her own voice. Spanning from classical to gospel to jazz through to rock, blues, pop, funk and soul, JoFoKe (Joh-Foh-Kee) is a vocalist that does this with ease. Enhancing her sound, JoFoKe has formed a group of equally versatile vocalists and instrumentalists. Her band “aNem” (and them) uniquely fuses the improvisatory aesthetic of Modern Jazz with Gospel and R&B/Soul. The repertoire of the group is eclectic, comfortably placing Jazz Standards alongside funky covers and soul-tinged originals. JoFoKe aNem create an experience that is, both, musically and spiritually enriching. “I couldn’t recommend JoFoKe aNem enough! Making intricate, complicated progressions, melody and harmonic arrangements easily accessible is the work of pure genius. Deeply heartfelt and brilliant artistry. Prepare to be moved!”

How to Communicate with Tact and Professionalism Training Seminar
Look around you. The true leaders in your organization are the people with the best communication skills.
Coincidence? Hardly. Experts now agree that the movers and shakers who climb the corporate ladder fastest are the ones who can relate easily with everyone…present their ideas with conviction (and charisma)…and emerge from almost every personal interaction on a high note.
Anyone who really wants to succeed can acquire these communication skills …
Upbringing, education, and talent aside, all good leaders share the same quality: superior communication skills. Either through observation, trial and error, or schooling from mentors, they've mastered the art of "connecting" with people in ways that almost always yield positive results…
  • They realize that diplomacy works far better than brute force.
  • They know how to help people "get it" the first time.
  • They can empathize, and they know how to get the support they need.
  • They don't waste time rehashing instructions or entering into arguments that go nowhere.
  • They listen first and act second — not the other way around.

A day that brings clarity to your payroll gray areas
Payroll processing sounds like a simple proposition. Employees work at a certain rate of pay. You take out taxes and give them the rest of what they've earned. Unfortunately, regulations regarding special benefits and other payments turn a simple task into a legal landmine. With this payroll management training, you'll gain strategies to handle payroll accurately, legally and with complete confidence.
What you don't know can hurt you. That's never more true than when dealing with payroll law. The first step to complying with regulations is understanding them. You'll begin your day with a crash course in payroll's legal basics. Find out what areas fall under state, federal and joint regulation and learn how to avoid the often staggering penalties and fines of non-compliance.
