2019 - OUR NEW YEAR ISSUE - 2020

|
Thank You!
2019 was a remarkable year for the WRWA organization. The years of planning, permits and meetings came to fruition, as we moved in to our new River Center at the Head of Westport in September.
We are grateful to our members, board members, and all of our many friends for helping to make it happen! Please come see us at any of our many programs planned for 2020!

Thank you to all our volunteers who help us throughout the year!

Dear Friends,
Heading into the New Year, we are grateful to all of our supporters who helped us reach this important moment in our organization's growth.
We are now starting to implement new ideas on how our new River Center can support expansion of the services and scope of WRWA. We have scheduled some interesting talks and demonstrations. Look for details on our Discovery 2020 Series coming up, which you can see further down in this newsletter.
December 31st concludes our Annual Fund Drive, and we are close to meeting our goal, thanks to our generous members and friends who have contributed so far. We are asking those who have not yet had the chance to chip in to help us get over the top on this year’s Annual Fund Drive before year’s end.
Thank you again for your support and generosity. We look forward to seeing you soon!

Winter Art Show -
We have space for a
few more artists!
We still have room for a few more artists for our upcoming Winter Art Show “BOAT ART-ifacts” coming up in late February. This is our 7th Annual Winter Art Show at the Dedee Shattuck Gallery which will run from February 22 to March 7, with a reception and silent auction on March 7.
On February 22, we will again offer our popular “Brushes & Brews” event, with a hands-on painting lesson from artists Barbara Healy and Pam Clarkson. And of course, pizza and beer come with that. Call WRWA at 508-636-3016 or email
outreach@wrwa.com
for information and to sign up.

Be Ready for the New Year! Get Your WRWA 2020 Calendar
|
People love our annual calendar. It features tide lines, which tell you the times and heights of all the tides throughout the year. And the beautiful photographs remind us all of the beauty of our home—or our home away from home!
This year’s photos are the winners chosen from over 80 entries in WRWA’s photo contest held this past spring. An independent group of volunteer judges viewed the photos and selected the winners last May.
The photographs, donated by area photographers, represent the most beautiful of Westport landscapes throughout the seasons, along with some remarkable wildlife shots. They make a great gift, especially for those who like to be reminded of summers in Westport while they are elsewhere.
The calendars are on sale now at the WRWA headquarters at 493 Old County Road, on line at
www.westportwatershed.org,
and locally at Partners Village Store and the Dedee Shattuck Gallery.

Winter Wonders Family Event
Please join the Westport River Watershed Alliance in launching
our new Education Discovery Series, with our first “
Winter Wonders
” event. On
Saturday January 11th from 10am-12pm, at our new River Center headquarters on 493 Old Country Road, enjoy a chance to learn about what the creatures around us do during the winter. This is an all-age event, with activities to spark anyone’s interest.
Kids are welcome to listen to fun winter stories, and make a craft to take home. Using our new high definition microscope, we’ll look at pine needles and leaves up close to learn about their vast differences. With our augmented reality sand table, we will demonstrate how water flows through the Westport Watershed after the snow melts. Visitors can also explore other stations to learn how birds and other animals adapt to winter conditions.
Our new Education Discovery Series is a chance for families in the community to learn about different aspects in our environment.
Winter Wonders
kicks off the first of our Education Discovery Series events. Many more events that we’re excited about are soon to come.
We hope that you will join us and other families at this event.
The event will take place at our new River Center headquarters, at 493 Old Country Road, from 10am-12pm.
$5 donation is suggested
. For more information about this event, please inquire at
