With the inauguration of Mayor Lightfoot and new changes to City Council, Ald. Waguespack (32nd) has been confirmed as the new Chair of the Committee on Finance and Ald. Smith (43rd) has been confirmed as Chair of the Committee on Ethics and Good Governance. Congratulations to both aldermen on these important roles in City Council.

ADVOCACY

The Chicago Scheduling Proposal is headed back to the Workforce Development Committee for a subject matter hearing on Monday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. It is our understanding that a committee vote will likely take place prior to the July City Council meeting in an effort to the pass the ordinance at the next council meeting.

Two days before the Illinois General Assembly was set to dismiss for the summer, the Senate approved an expansion and 10 year extension of the McPier Tax that would pass a 1% tax to restaurants and bars with the tax boundary being expanded North to Irving Park. The LPCC reached out to State Representatives Sara Feigenholtz, Ann Williams and Jawaharial Williams to oppose this tax as it made its way to the House. Mayor Lightfoot opposed the legislation which did not pass the House before the end of the session. The LPCC will continue to monitor this legislation and voice opposition if it comes up for vote again in the fall.
