A Message from ORES Principal Denise Francisco
Oak Ridge Elementary wishes all families a very restful and pleasant Thanksgiving! The school will be closed Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 21-23 for students. We look forward to seeing students back on Monday, Nov. 26th.

Thank you, Parents! 1st Quarter Conferences were very successful. As of today, 99% of our student body was represented at a parent conference and received their report card in a face-to-face meeting between Nov. 2nd and Nov. 14th. We appreciate each of our parents for making conference time a priority! Mark your calendars for Jan. 22nd – this will be the 2nd Quarter Conference Day and the date that you will receive your 2nd Quarter Report Card.

Congratulations to our Go Far Runners – they ran an amazing race on Saturday morning! We are so proud of all our students! We are very thankful to both Mrs. Dixon and Ms. Thompson for their work sponsoring our Go Far Running Club!

This past week 3rd-5th grade classrooms held classroom Spelling Bees. The winners of the classroom Spelling Bee will advance to the School Spelling Bee on December 11th. Be sure to ask your child who the classroom level winner was! The GCS District Wide Spelling Bee is scheduled for Feb. 6th.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Mrs. Francisco
We are so THANKFUL for YOU!
Whether you spent an hour making photocopies, donated paper cups for a class event, sent in a check for our fundraisers or took the day off to chaperone a field trip (and every other task in-between that helped our students) -- you have made a very significant contribution to Oak Ridge Elementary.

Any PTO is only as strong as its members and volunteers, and ours is so fortunate to have each and every one of you!  We wish you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving -- we truly have so much to be grateful for!
Colt's Kids
Congratulations to Edith Aakerblom! She is our next Superstar! Welcome to Oak Ridge, Edith!

Thank you to all the parents who helped make our Early Civilizations party a success! You are appreciated!

ORES Science Fair Opportunities
STILL LOOKING FOR JUDGES!

ORE continues to need judges for the Science Fair on November 28, 2018 . Students from all grade levels are currently working hard to complete their Science Fair projects and judges are needed for this event. Judging will start at 8:00 AM and the PTO will provide snacks and lunch.

All interested parents and community members are encouraged to contact Ms. Heather Tuggle for more information. This is a great way to volunteer and make a big difference at ORE!

The PTO needs volunteers to help during Science Fair. There is something for everyone's schedule!

We need assistance getting participants to the gym throughout Wednesday, helping the classes walk through the exhibits on Thursday and serving light refreshments at the Awards Night.

If can you spare an hour of your time (or more) on November 28 and 29, please sign up here!
Congratulations to October's GCS Reads 30 Winners!
Congratulations to the following classrooms for winning the Oak Ridge Elementary GCS Reads 30 monthly competition for the month of October:

Kindergarten – Ms. Brendle
First Grade – Ms. Foster
Second Grade – Ms. Pritchett
Third Grade – Ms. Street
Fourth Grade – Ms. Dobbins
Fifth Grade - Ms. Boggess

As a school, we read more than 750,000 minutes in October. This is fantastic, but we can do better! For the month of November, let’s see if we can read for more than 800,000 minutes! Special prizes will be given to the classes who win for the month of November. We can’t wait to see who it will be!

For more information on the benefits of reading and how you can help your student, click here.

Help Needed: ORE Coordinator with Northwest Guilford Area Backpack Ministry
Northwest Guilford Area Backpacks needs a parent(s) to help coordinate Oak Ridge Elementary' s Third Grade Class Service Learning Project. The 3rd Grade Class for the past several years has collected food and packed bags for the children in the Northwest Guilford Area Backpack Program.   You do not have to have a 3rd grader to help.

For more information about the program and a specific description of the Coordinator role, please read this flyer

Can you and/or a friend help? Please email Amy Bruce at abruce22@triad.rr.com if you have any questions and/or would like to help.

Share your photographs with Oak Ridge Elementary!
At Oak Ridge, we love pictures of our students and all of the amazing things they do at our school. Please share your BEST pictures with us for possible use in our yearbook, on our website, slideshows, and other purposes.

We especially love pictures taken during special lessons, performances, class parties, field trips, afterschool clubs, etc.

Simply email your high-quality pics to: orespictures@gmail.com (or click on the image).  If using a cell phone, high resolution pictures work best, and landscape orientation is especially helpful for our website photos. Make sure the pictures are not in “live mode” or they will be blurry when we receive them.

Questions? Contact Mrs. Dalton for more information. Thank you!
Sponsorship Opportunities
All of our sponsors, no matter how big or small, make a difference. Sponsoring our weekly newsletter, gymnasium banners, website and school planners helps us provide the school staff, our students and our families resources that the school's budget does not provide. If you are interested in a sponsorship, please contact us.
