Mending God's World - May 9, 2021
Our fourth course of the Theological Banquet offers a taste of the Ecumenical flavour of lived faith. We’ll meet some Spirit filled members of the early church whose experience of the Risen Christ led them to live in a radically different way. We’ll dream about the Abundant life that God offers and how we can work with others to help mend God’s world.
Scripture: Micah 6: 6-8, Acts 4: 32-35

Do you celebrate or grieve on Mother's Day?
Mother's Day for many is a joyful time of celebrating the love of mothers and grandmothers and those who have been like mothers to us. But our life experiences are varied and our relationships can be complicated and messy. For some of us, Mother's Day brings memories of loss, disappointment and profound pain.
Whoever you are and whatever your experience, may you know the love and healing of our Mothering God, who gathers us all under her wings.

The Pandemic has created challenges for all of us and especially for people who are homeless and/or living with addictions. Thanks to the United Church of Canada for posting this moving tribute to the frontline workers who are supporting these folks. As you watch this short video, consider offering a prayer for these support workers and consider how God is calling us to "Rise Up Strong" in caring for our neighbours. Learn more about this video.

Again last Tuesday evening, 57 Peninsula United folks came together to savour another course of The THEOLOGICAL BANQUET. The video this week was "Snapshot of Five Theologies", and served up the flavours of each of the theologies, or lived faiths, alive in our congregation. In five random small group breakouts - some likened it to speed-dating, as we engaged with different people each time! - we reflected on the core characteristics of the Evangelical, Ecclesial, Missional, Ecumenical, and Spiritual streams of our faith, and considered how each of these show up in the mission, the worship, and the outreach at Peninsula United. By the end of the evening, we were beginning to identify the expression of lived faith that we each most identify with.
Next week, we'll learn to analyze the strengths, "shadows", and "antidotes" of each of the five theologies. This is a banquet course with some meat in it!

Join us online at 12 p.m. PST on Sunday, May 9, on the United Church's YouTube channel for a special worship service of apology and lament for the church’s role in coerced adoptions. During the service, the United Church will acknowledge its role in forced adoptions through maternity homes operated by the church, and the Moderator will offer a formal apology to mothers and all affected by historical adoption practices.
