Creating tomorrow's energy landscape with a new vision

From your Google Home to your electric vehicle and smart thermostat, the ways we use energy are changing. Our vision for how we generate and deliver that energy is changing too.

Over the next six months, we will work closely with our Utilities Board, the Utilities Policy Advisory Committee, members of the community and you -- our customers -- to draft a plan that will set forth a vision for a dynamic, sustainable, clean energy future. 

This vision will allow us to better serve you and incorporate important issues like protecting our natural resources, supporting clean energy and transportation, building a more resilient system, growing energy efficiency, empowering energy choice and driving economic development in the Pikes Peak region.

Get up to $15 off new LED holiday lights

Now through Dec. 21, electric customers can drop off old holiday lights at our Conservation and Environmental Center and receive up to three $5 coupons (up to $15) toward the purchase of ENERGY STAR® holiday lights at participating local ACE Hardware stores.
 
All lights will be recycled with proceeds benefitting Project COPE. New LED holiday lights not only save you money, they are safer than old incandescent strands.

Funding our future

On November 13, City Council approved our 2019 budget, and a rate increase of $4.68 to the monthly typical, four-service, residential utility bill, effective Jan. 1, 2019. 

As a not-for-profit, community-owned utility, our rates align with the cost to provide service. Like many utilities across the nation, our water and wastewater systems are old and in need of ongoing repair and refurbishment.  This funding supports a significant upgrade to the Phillip H. Tollefson Water Treatment Plant (pictured at right), as well as ongoing work to repair and replace water mains throughout the city. 

Our overall utilities budget is the lowest in recent history - nearly $42 million less than our 2018 budget. Visit csu.org to learn more .
Insulate to avoid frozen pipes

Don't get left in the cold on the most frigid winter days with frozen or broken water pipes. Use these tips to avoid a soggy winter:
  • Pick up some pipe insulation at your local hardware store. Simply measure, cut and pop the foam on your pipes.
  • Use caulk or insulation to seal leaks that allow cold air in near indoor pipes.
  • On extra cold days, open your kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors, especially if they are against an exterior wall. The air that heats your home will help keep your pipes warm.
