Fullerton College will join more than 40 community colleges and organizations across California that will host events for Undocumented Student Week of Action, October 15 - 19. Located in Room 1955, the Chris Lamm & Toni DuBois Memorial Food Bank is open on Tuesdays from noon - 2 p.m. and 4 - 6:30 p.m. To utilize the food bank, students must be enrolled in at least three units and bring their school schedule along with their school ID. The entire Fullerton College campus, including NOCE's Wilshire Center, will participate in the statewide Great Shakeout earthquake drill on Oct. 18 at 10:18 a.m. The drill will include evacuations of all buildings and demonstrations of the Stryker evacuation chairs. Before the drill begins, the campus community will receive a test of the mass emergency communication system. A text message, voicemail and email will be sent. The Child Development and Educational Studies Department will host the 2nd annual Chris Lamm Lecture on Friday, Oct. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Wilshire Auditorium. Author, researcher and advocate Diane Levin, PhD will present a lecture called "Endangered Play, Endangered Development: Why Play is Even More Important in the 21st Century And What We Can Do To Promote It." This lecture is free to attend, but the department encourages guests to contribute monetary donations or two canned goods to benefit the Child Lab School and the Fullerton College Food Bank.

Coffee with the Board of Trustees and Chancellor

The college community is invited to Coffee with the Board of Trustees and Chancellor at Fullerton College on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m. in Building 200, Rooms 224-228. The coffee is an informal and open discussion where guests may ask questions or just listen to the conversation. Chancellor Cheryl Marshall will also have an open office hour on Thursday, Nov. 8 at 10 a.m. in Building 100. Cypress College will host a coffee on Monday, Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. in the CC Complex 414 along with an open office hour on Monday, Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cypress President's Conference Room.

Participating students will learn about the career planning process, take a free interest assessment, and learn how to make informed decisions about choosing a major. The NOCCCD Latino Faculty and Staff Association (LFSA) will host a bilingual educational session in Spanish on Wednesday, Oct. 17 at 6 p.m. at NOCE, Anaheim Campus, Room 105. The session is designed for Spanish speaking parents with students attending one of the three campuses of NOCCCD and will focus on how parents can best support their child's education. The event is coordinated by members of the LFSA.

Associated Students is preparing for the annual Quad Haunt and Club Rush on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. The event features a costume contest, pie eating contest, and pumpkin carving contest. On Friday, the men's water polo squad played at the Santa Monica Mini Tournament winning one and losing one. In game one, the Hornets lost to Santa Monica 21-12, but then pick it up in the second game beating El Camino 14-11. Up Next: Fullerton (6-12 overall, 0-3 OEC) hosts Orange Coast College on Wednesday, Oct. 17 for another Orange Empire Conference matchup. Game time is at 4 p.m.

T he Hornets finished in seventh place overall at the Mount San Antonio College Invite last Friday. The athletes put together their best race of the season posting 200 points. Ian Rusk led the pack finishing at 22:58, and Mauro Rosales was not too far behind coming in at 23:02. Andrew Fernando finished at 23:15. All three runners finished in the top 35 spots of the race.  Fernando shaved 43-seconds off from last year's race time. William Gerard crossed the finish line at 24:47, and Ryan Sheatz finished at 25:21. Sean Wing (25:43) and Matthew Worrall (25:47) ran sixth and seventh for the team. Up Next: The OEC Championships will be Friday, Oct. 26 at Riverside City College. Race time is at 9:45 am.

The Symphonic Winds ensemble is the major performing group for wind, brass and percussion music majors at Fullerton College. This ensemble performs standard band literature as well as commissioning new works from both students and established composers. Entrance in the ensemble is by audition.
