Dear Colleagues:
To all of you who have made a gift to support our new facility project, we are so grateful. Your donations are helping us get closer to our $25 million fund-raising goal. For those of you who are still considering a gift, please know that your support is vital to the success of this project. It is critical for us to meet this goal so we can equip our new building with the educational and patient care facilities and technology that will enable us to continue to recruit the best students, hire the most capable faculty, and provide high-quality oral health care.
It is no exaggeration to say we now have an unprecedented, once-in-our-lifetime chance to move this college forward, advance our profession, and be a leader among dental schools throughout the country. If everyone does what they can, we will reach our goal and fulfill the plans and expectations we have for this new facility. No matter the size of the gift, it will make a difference.
As our fund-raising efforts continue, we are grateful for the generosity of our alumni and other constituents, but we will soon be forced to make some difficult choices about what we can and cannot afford for the new building. As of today, 451 of our 10,000-plus alumni have contributed to the
Building on Strong Foundations campaign that supports our new facility.
In 2012, the university hired a consultant to gauge the giving potential of our alumni. That estimate presented a much higher level of support for our project, based on the past generosity of our alumni; the well-known loyalty of Ohio State's alums for their alma mater; the professional success our graduates have enjoyed; and the success of our peer dental schools' fund-raising efforts. With all that in mind, we felt confident we could meet - and even exceed - our goal. And we still believe our alumni will help us in this effort and "pay it forward."
Every contributor will be acknowledged in the new facility. A large plaque showcasing the names of those who gave will be prominently displayed in the new building, and we hope it will inspire others - visitors, patients, and future graduates - to support the college and its endeavors. Your gift will live on, helping to perpetuate a level of commitment and giving that will benefit our college for decades to come.
If you would like to join those who have already given, you can call our Office of Development at 614-292-9307, or visit our website at
dentistry.osu.edu and click on the image of our new facility under the headline, "Building on Strong Foundations." We truly need everyone to be part of this effort, and we thank you for considering ways you can make
your new facility a reality!
Patrick M. Lloyd, DDS, MS
