Team Norfolk Trains Olympians

The new year brings about new opportunities. The City of Norfolk's Pernell Sweet Pea Whitaker Boxing Center provides a state-of-the-art facility for all ages and all skill levels, including athletes like Kelvin Davis, Olympic Boxing Candidate. Head Boxing Coach, Tyler Trask, states, "If you want to learn to box, we'll teach you how to box. If you want to get in shape, we'll get you in shape. If you want to compete, then we'll make you a champion." Find out more about the boxing center today.

New Year - New Home

Start the new year with a gift for yourself - homeownership. Providing Hope

In November, Virginia's first Family Justice Center opened in Norfolk at 500 E. Plume Street. The multi-agency center provides a single location for victims of crime to address immediate and long-term needs and provides trauma-informed care professionals 24 hours a day. Red Means STOP!

The City's third PhotoSafe red light camera was installed at Hampton Boulevard and Princess Anne Road. The program is designed to reduce the number of violations by automatically capturing evidence of vehicles whose drivers violate the law. There is a 30-day grace period between activation and enforcement .

Two Norfolk High Schools:

TWO State Football Championships

For the first time in 80 years, Maury High School brought home a football state championship with the defeat of Stone Bridge in the Class 5 showdown at Hampton University.

Lake Taylor High School brought home its third state championship after defeating Tuscarora at Liberty University in Lynchburg for the Class 4 title.

Data from the census is used to determine congressional apportionment and redistricting, as well as to distribute over $900 billion across 325 federal spending programs. The city is also working with the Census Bureau to recruit and hire approximately 1,600 persons in Norfolk.

Protect Your Pipes This Winter!

Frozen pipes on your property are something to watch for in the winter months. Here are five tips to help stop the problem before a potential burst.

Wrap exposed pipes with insulating material.
Locate your inside water shut-off valve, if your home has one, and tag it so it’s clearly identifiable.
If your house has a crawl space, cover outside vents to prevent winter winds from freezing pipes.
Keep the garage door closed. Some water pipes are located under concrete garage floors.
Drip it. Keep water moving with a small trickle.
