We Care About You!

#ALLSTAYHOME!!!

STAY SAFE! TAKE CARE!

Dear MCHR Supporter,

We are living through unprecedented times, isolated but so concerned for all those impacted by the virus, all those already so vulnerable due to poverty, illness or living conditions and all those who are risking their own health and that of their family in order to help others.

We know our MCHR supporters will not be idle in this crisis. We know that you will do what you can, no matter how small, for the sake of the community and world. We offer this edition of our email to highlight the Good We Can Do, suggestions for connecting those in need with those who can help, connecting one another on important issues even though we are separate from one another.

We hope you find these resources valuable. If you know of something or someone who could use our support, please send it along to [email protected] . We may repeat this kind of email if useful.

In the meantime, stay home, stay healthy and take good care of yourself! We (and the world) needs you!

Water: People's Water Board is taking action to ensure government officials deliver on their promise to immediately restore water service to all residents who've been shut off. Government actions taken to date have been drastically inadequate to meet residents' needs. Thousands in Detroit and across the state remain without water as this virus continues to spread. Please check back here for updates, resources, and things you
can do to support this work. Go to: https://www.peopleswaterboard.org/blog/

Also, Help us show support for a national moratorium on water and utility shutoffs!

MCHR 40th Annual Dinner POSTPONED
Til Fall!
Watch for new date soon!!!!!

Dear MCHR supporters,

Firstly, Michigan Coalition for Human Rights would like to thank you for your continued support to the organization. By now, you may or may not have read/heard that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have decided to postpone our Annual Dinner until the Fall of 2020. As a result, we are reaching out to notify you via this correspondence and offer some options to those who have already purchased tickets, tables and/or ads.

If you have purchased any of the above-mentioned, you have the opportunity to:

Have your funds applied to the Annual Dinner this Fall. Once the Board decides on a new dinner date, notifications will go out and your ticket, table and ad purchases will be applied accordingly.

Donate funds to the Freedom Tour. While we have also postponed the 2020 tour to the South until 2021, fundraising is still underway and will continue throughout the year, in preparation for summer 2021.

Receive a refund. If preferred, we can either refund your deposited funds or for those funds recently received via checks, void them upon request.

We will await your reply and directive before proceeding further. Subsequent emails and/or calls will be made if we do not hear from you soon. We will give some time but ensure that we make contact of some sort with everyone.

Again, your endless support is appreciated and valued. MCHR Board Members and Staff are here to answer any questions you may have.

We hope to have Rev. Liz Theoharis in the fall.

This project is labor and financially intensive project but one that MCHR is proud of. If you can send a check to support next year's program, our youth and MCHR will be grateful!

Lockdown

Lockdown
Yes there is fear.
Yes there is isolation.
Yes there is panic buying.
Yes there is sickness.
Yes there is even death.
But, They say that in Wuhan after so many years of noise
You can hear the birds again.
They say that after just a few weeks of quiet
The sky is no longer thick with fumes
But blue and grey and clear.
They say that in the streets of Assisi
People are singing to each other
across the empty squares,
keeping their windows open
so that those who are alone
may hear the sounds of family around them.
They say that a hotel in the West of Ireland
Is offering free meals and delivery to the housebound.
Today a young woman I know
is busy spreading fliers with her number
through the neighbourhood
So that the elders may have someone to call on.
Today Churches, Synagogues, Mosques and Temples
are preparing to welcome
and shelter the homeless, the sick, the weary
All over the world people are slowing down and reflecting

All over the world people are looking at their neighbours in a new way
All over the world people are waking up to a new reality
To how big we really are.
To how little control we really have.
To what really matters.
To Love.
So we pray and we remember that
Yes there is fear.
But there does not have to be hate.
Yes there is isolation.
But there does not have to be loneliness.
Yes there is panic buying.
But there does not have to be meanness.
Yes there is sickness.
But there does not have to be disease of the soul
Yes there is even death.
But there can always be a rebirth of love.
Wake to the choices you make as to how to live now.
Today, breathe.
Listen, behind the factory noises of your panic
The birds are singing again
The sky is clearing,
Spring is coming,
And we are always encompassed by Love.
Open the windows of your soul
And though you may not be able
to touch across the empty square,
Sing.
