EON Reality VRIA Graduation
|
|
On May 20, the graduation for the inaugural class for the
Virtual Reality Innovation Academy
took place. Students and their family and friends heard from Dr. Pamela Boyers, associate vice chancellor for iEXCEL, and Dee Baird, senior vice president of economic development for the Greater Omaha Chamber, who celebrated the successful completion of the 11-month course. Certificates were proudly presented by program manager, Chris Allmon.
When congratulating graduates, Baird said iEXCEL creates a new vertical industry, or customer niche, in Omaha. Her message to graduates noted,
"You are pioneers in creating this new vertical industry in health care and will take this to other industries and help them to transform or start your own companies based on the skills you've learned."
This class started in July of 2018, and several candidates have already received job offers. The AR/VR world is rapidly growing with countless companies adopting visualization techniques in their daily operations, providing an array of opportunities for employees with these new skillsets. iEXCEL is looking forward to the next cohort set to start in September 2019.

iEXCEL Supports Federal Infectious Disease Training Program
|
|
iEXCEL is supporting the Global Center for Health Security with the launch of their infectious disease training program. Planned to occupy the ground level of the Davis Global Center, this federally-funded training uses a variety of interactive and experiential simulation technologies including interactive visualization tools to train health professionals how to take care of people who have contracted highly-infectious diseases. Visualization models created by the iEXCEL VizTeam offer opportunities to practice the accurate sequencing of donning and doffing personal protective equipment (PPE) in 2D and 3D. The team has also created a 360° video to demonstrate particulate dissemination during patient care as well as an interactive module for the iWall.
Highly-coordinated simulation scenarios using task trainers and patient simulators provide learners the opportunity to practice infection prevention and control (IPC), such as transfers of care and the safe handling of bodily fluids. These immersive, hands-on training experiences include assessments of performance and are designed to improve critical thinking, communication and teamwork skills.

Simulation in Motion-Nebraska (SIM-NE) is a statewide, mobile education system, taking hands-on simulation training to pre-hospital and hospital professionals.
|
|
|
In March, SIM-NE celebrated training more than 5,000 health care professionals since their inception in 2016. SIM-NE staff were delighted to present the 5,000th Trainee Award to Jane Meyer, APRN, at Valley County Health System in Ord, Nebraska.
Other SIM-NE highlights included training with the Nebraska State Patrol Academy in Grand Island and engaging with students at the Southeast Nebraska AHEC Science Meet in Beatrice to demonstrate career opportunities in simulation and emergency medicine.
|
|
|
|
In April, SIM-NE hosted the Simulation for Rural Healthcare (SIRH) conference for over 60 Midwest attendees. UNMC Chancellor Dr. Jeffrey Gold highlighted the importance of simulation education for rural communities throughout Nebraska
in his opening remarks.
Mr. Walter Panzirer from The Helmsley Charitable Trust was presented with an award from the SIM states (ND, SD, MT and NE), recognizing his continued support of mobile simulation education.

iEXCEL was invited to showcase how technology is revolutionizing education by offering attendees of the SmartBiz Conference hands-on experiences with the latest health care training technologies. At the conference, coordinated by the Greater Omaha Chamber, the Startup Initiative and Cox Business, Governor Pete Ricketts proclaimed the day (May 1) as
SmartBiz Omaha
Day
in Nebraska. This special day was created to recognize the hard work accomplished in creating an unparalleled, business-friendly climate in Omaha and across the state.
The program also organized an experiential booth for the annual
iCAN Women’s Leadership Conference.
This year's theme explored emerging technology in the digital age among more than 3,000 participants representing 38 states. iEXCEL showcased how the program is improving patient outcomes through visualization, simulation and interactive learning opportunities. iEXCEL also collaborated with conference organizers to incorporate holographic displays and immersive welcome signage at both entrances of the event hall.

The seventh annual
Nebraska Science Festival
(April 5-28), involved a statewide celebration of scientific curiosity and innovation. The 2019 NE SciFest was the largest yet, with the multi-venue and multi-day festival involving dozens of events. Among these, Family Day and the Student Science Expo at the Durham Museum featured iEXCEL and SIM-NE respectively. Thousands of visitors of all ages attended these events and interacted with iEXCEL and SIM-NE staff and technology to explore the future of healthcare training.
