It is officially spring and residents of Newton can enjoy the flowering bulbs that were planted by Newton Community Pride volunteers last fall in the Newton Center Green next to the parking lot at Langley and Beacon Streets.
This is the time of year when Pride works on preparing for the summer flowers. Most of the work begins in late April and continues through the summer. This garden is one of the few to be honored by the All-American Selection Committee.
For many years, about a dozen volunteers have nurtured and maintained the plants from seedlings to beautiful flowers. They need your help. If you’d like to learn gardening from experts whether you have a green or brown thumb, please volunteer by sending an email to
contactus@newtoncommunitypride.org
or call Howard Sholkin, 617 513-1183.
Plans for the garden depend on developments with COVID-19, but if all goes well help is needed by late April.
