Friends Annual Meeting Tuesday, June 11th @ 4:00 pm Eileen McNamara, Pulitzer Prize-winning Boston Globe columnist and author of Eunice: The Kennedy Who Changed the World , will be the keynote speaker at this year’s Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Eldredge Public Library.  At the meeting we will vote to approve the FY20 budget, elect directors for the coming year and review highlights of the past year. These actions will comprise the short business portion of the meeting.   Ms. McNamara, now part of the journalism department at Brandeis University, will discuss her book and take questions from the audience. We hope you will be able to attend because the session promises to be both informative and entertaining. Welcome Summer! It doesn’t seem possible that July is just around the corner. We are so excited to invite you to participate in the many events and activities we have planned during our summer celebration of A Universe of Stories .   Along with our adult summer reading challenge, we will host a Paint & Sip Party, a visit from Sally Ride, and a Lunar Landing celebration that rivals the 1969 event that had you huddling in front of the television with family and friends listening to Walter Cronkite.   We will also host another cooking demonstration from professional chef Liz Barbour, several amazing authors, a documentary film and more. If you connect with us on Facebook, Instagram, and/or Twitter, you will see a new series of pop-up programs scheduled for the front lawn, offering fun and creative ways to celebrate the summer months at the EPL.    We look forward to spending the summer with you! Megan Dowd Lambert Wednesday, June 12 @ 2:30 pm Megan Dowd Lambert, award-winning author, reviewer, blogger and Senior Lecturer at Simmons University, will present the Whole Book Approach to reading picture books with children. Developed by Ms. Lambert in association with The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, the Whole Book Approach is a co-constructive, dialogic approach to reading with children, rather than reading to them. This unique workshop welcomes parents, teachers, grandparents, caregivers and children’s lit enthusiasts who want to make the most of shared reading times while celebrating the picture book as a visual art form. No registration is required for this event. Ms. Lambert’s presentation is brought to you with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. Books will be available for purchase and autographing thanks to Where the Sidewalk Ends.

Friends of EPL Learning Series A special event highlighted the Spring Learning Series that filled the newly painted halls of the library with live music. Those attending Matt Scinto's Evolution of the String Quartet class enjoyed a string quartet concert by musicians from the Cape Cod Chamber Orchestra at the final session.  One more class of the Spring 2019 semester is still open for registration and is of interest to anyone who enjoys engineering wonders of the world and solutions for sea level rise. See the details for The Dutch Delta Works in the Spring Brochure . This course will take place on Thursdays, June 6 and 13, at 1:00 pm with presenter Steve Emery. Looking forward, committee members are hard at work preparing the brochure for Fall 2019. Expect a semester of 18 classes, some completely new, as well as the return of the most popular subjects and presenters. Chatham History Weekend – June 21-23 Visit Chatham’s museums and historical attractions! Take a guided bus tour of Historic Chatham with stops at museums & historic sites. Information for the bus tour and the schedule of weekend venues, programs and events are located at historic-chatham.org . A great opportunity to learn your town’s history – you will be surprised!   The Friends’ Bargain Book Sale is ready for the start of the summer season! With that in mind, we have received a terrific donation of books about golf. Need a gift for a golfing enthusiast or light reading for a golfing houseguest? We just might have what you are looking for. Stop by for a visit!
